How to disable touch-pad on Inspiron 6000?

Thread Starter
Hi all, hopefully someone can help me out with this. I have a fairly new Inspiron 6000D laptop, which I'm quite happy with. I use it mainly for work; engineering tools, network test, etc.

My problem is with the touch pad. Typically I have a mouse plugged in (MS Explorer 4.0 USB mouse). I've long ago installed the drivers for this mouse. However, now I can't get to the touch pad controls through the control panel. When I go into Start -> Control Panel -> Mouse, the only control options I get are for the mouse.

I really want to either disable the touch pad entirely or turn on the setting that makes the touch pad ignore input if you're typing. A common problem for me is while I'm typing, my left hand just below the thumb touches the pad, and either the window will switch or my cursor will move all over. It's getting to be a real headache.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Andy In Newark, CA

There is an option In Alps touch pad software, so that when you are typing input to the touchpad isnt recognized, go to dell.com and download the software under driver downloads.
