Hi, I was interested in buying one of these, saw it at Circuit City, it has a white finish, 4.2 pounds, and has a sempron AMD 3000.

Has anyone bought this and have reviewed it?

If so, please post your thoughts on the pluses and minuses.. thanks.

I sell these at work. We have a lot of buyers and don't really hear any complaints. We've had a few repeat buyers from different local companies.

For the price it's a good little laptop if you are just looking for a internet/word machine that can also play DVDs now and then.

They stick and I don't like them!

We get some many Averatec laptops in for repairs it is not funny, and they are not top in sales... if they were #1 in sales, I'd expect to see a lot.

Very cheap, you get what you pay for in this case.

I would not carry them around alot, if you do get one get the extended warranty, you will be using it and getting parts for these is not easy for the individual.

The 3700 series are very new. First I've ever heard of them in fact. Of course you're not going to see very many of them, either being sold or brought in for repair.

I imagine a yugo with a keyboard when I think of that laptop, call me crazy.

Has anyone actually seen this thing? If it has the build quality of the recent 4100/4200 series, I think that's definitely a step up from their last gen laptops which were craptacular...

Hey, supergoat, where do you work? I haven't seen these things at all, but for the MSRP I'm seeing, they sound like a great deal.

Okay thanks for the opinion. Because i'm saw it at circuit city and it looked great because it had the white case and then when i tapped on the keyboard it felt very good.

Im seeing a lot of averatec's on clearance at their site going for about $800. some of them even have 80 gig hard drives. There are lots of amd's. Im wondering what the catch is? do they have cheap integrated graphics or cheap dvd burners?

I think the 3700 is the one with only 1 RAM slot. So to upgrade, you have to buy a 1GB stick to replace the 512MB it comes with.

their site www.shopaveratec.com didnt even have the 3700 on it...the point I was trying to get at is that u seem to get a lot for your $800 (athalon 64 proc, 80 gb hd, dual layer dvd burner, 15.4 " screen etc. I wondered what the catch was (i.e. do they all use cheap integrated graphics, do the lids crack like on the gateways/emachines etc.? anyone know?

What's the catch? They're older models, probably soon to be phased out in favor of a new line of laptops. You really don't want an Athlon 64 in a mobile laptop. Battery life usually tends to be less than 2 hours. Better to get a recent Turion or Pentium M laptop.

Hey guys!

OK, I guess I'll stick my two cents in, being as how we just bought one for my niece an' all just today!

Well, first of all it feels quite rugged, very light and has a wonderfully vibrant screen for a little tiny PDA sized lappy.

We got ours from Circuit City. And after reading some of these posts, I'm glad to say that we also purchase a two year replacement/accidental/covers everything $265 warrantee.

I haven't played with it much. So my experience is very limited. But, I'll keep you up to date as life goes on.

I did, however, happen to have both the 3dMark2k3 and 3dMark2k5 install files with me. Unfortunately, I did not have either 3dMark2k or 3dMark2k1, both of which would obviously be better for this particular non-gaming laptop.

When I went to run 3dMark2k3, a message popped up noting that most of 3dMark2k3 required an adapter that was compatible with directX 8.0 or better and that only a few test would be run. So I ran them anyway.

With that said here's its 3dMark2k3 score: 73

Anyway, it's obviously not a gamer. But I like it just far a neat little laptop!

Also, here's a nice DEMO of the product!
And here's a more elaborate REVIEW!
