i just renewed my warranty on my 9100 for 179$ and i was wondering if it would be worth it or just to go and buy a new comp?? i heard of people getting the new dell laptops when they turn theirs in to get fixed. i doubt that will happen to me but i was just wondering if its worth it to get the warranty?? im going to turn my 9100 in to fix the damn headphone jack that i had to replace twice and to fix discoloration on the chassy and also just to see why the speed has reduced.

I think that there warranties are well worth the money. When I first got a laptop a couple of years ago I had so many problems with it, I was glad that I had the warranty. All I did was call dell and then they would send someone out the replace the part. Eventully they ended up replaceing the whole laptop and never had a problem since. If it wern't for that warranty I would be stuck with that old POS.

New laptops, I'd definitely get the warranty. I've seen a definite degradation in the quality of Dell computers overall since January of this year. Also, Dell has changed the definition of "overnight" and "next business day" to "hopefully sometime within two weeks". So far though, they are still honoring their warranties better than most of the competition, so I haven't yet told my Dell rep to go hang himself. I was pretty close this week, but not just yet.
Anything older, and it's really up to you. If you intend to keep the unit for a year or more, $179 isn't a bad investment to ensure that it stays in decent shape.
