Problems with my new amilo m 3438g!

Hello

newbie here, please be nice!

Have just recieved a amilo m 3438g this tuesday with the followings specs:

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Fujit.../version-1.asp

i've been having a few problems with it since...

the first time i booted it up (after registering xp) it froze at the windows logo screen, i had to turn it on and off again.

after a few minutes it kept on freezing every 5 seconds, the mouse pointer kept on sticking!

But this has not happened again.

Anyway, the point of this post is to ask if any other amilo m 3438g owners have experienced slow bootup times?

My 3438g seems to be a little slow to bootup, taking over a minute to get to the desktop screen. (i've hardly installed any programs yet apart from norton antivirus and nero).

I'm not sure if i'm expecting too much or if there is anything wrong with it.

I hoping that the 3438g owners on this forum will be able to help me out.

Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem with my M3438 when it arrived from dealer. The problem seems to be related to the (old) chipset driver and the wirless driver.

Download the latest chipset driver from:
ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-suppo...inst_autol.exe

And the latest wireless driver from:
ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-suppo..._TIC_97904.exe

Then
(1) Uninstall the wireless application (add\remove applications) already installed on the machine, it may have been preinstalled, I think it’s called 'Omega Wireless App for FS' or something. If it isn't installed don't worry about it.

(2) Install the Chipset driver

(3) Install the Wireless driver. The Wireless driver comes with its own Wireless Management app that I think is way better then that 'Omega' junk, anyways when installing the driver you get the option of installing that as well.

One other thing about installing the Wireless Driver, during the installation you're asked what additional application you want to install, one of them is called 'Single Sign On'. If you install this you'll be presented with a password dialogue box whenever you log onto windows. Personally I didn't like this to I left it out.

Good Luck

Erm I can tell you 100% what the problem is I was going to mention it before but I didn't think anyone else had the same problem. But the problem is Norton. I got my laptop from the same site as you and when I installed Norton Internet Security, it boots like quickly to the welcome screen and then it takes 2 minutes or so to get off that welcome screen and to load the wallpaper... and then it took me an additional 1 minute to load the desktop and system tray.

Basically the point is I removed all unnecessary boot up using msconfig, and I have had problems with norton on boot up on my desktop pc but never on this scale, so I decided to test the theory and remove Norton... and guess what boots straight to my desktop and loads everything without hesitation.

So at the moment I am using AVG antivirus and Zone Alarm Firewall, both of which you can get for free online.

The problem is Norton but I don't understand why especially when the laptop has 1 gig of DDRII SDRAM. But I can ensure you once you have uninstalled Norton your laptop should be running smoothly again.

I got my Laptop from the same site and had the same problem. I'm still using Norton Internet Security and when booting up the Welcome Screen only appears for 3-4 sec before it moves on and the desktop appears.

Personally, I fixed the problem by updating the drivers.

I got an identical M3438G on Monday.

I had similar problems with NIS, but I uninstalled it and installed my old copy of Norton Antivirus 2003 and Norton Personal Firewall 2003 which sped things up massively, but I'm going to change my drivers anyway (I already changed the Geforce Go drivers, because they were pathetic).
