I spoke with AW 2 days ago about an upgrade. Since my 7700 is in depot anyway, I was curious. The quote that "I" got from AW was like $700ish, I cant remember exactly what it was, but I do know it was in the $700 range. This was with the latest MOBO upgrade, 7700 Ultra card, and a new adapter. The only reason I did not purchase this order right now is because im waiting to see if my motherboard is the reason for the issues that I had it sent in for. If I need a motherboard replacement, hopefully it will be the latest revision board. That would knock off however much out of the 700 bucks and save money!
I had my laptop sent in once before in which they replaced my motherboard. I had an older revision board and they replaced it with the latest one, at that time. I asked them afterwards if I could use an ULTRA card with this revision, they replied "yes". But now, unfortunately, they tell me that it WONT support the ULTRA card, and that there is ANOTHER revision out that will support it. It was rather strange that they told me this, because when they released the ULTRA card, the revision that I had installed from the first time it was in depot i was quite sure was the one that was being circulated to customers with the ULTRA card. I want to say it was revision 5.2b. I could be wrong though.
But in either case, its no sweat off my back, its the life of owning a computer. As soon as you buy an upgrade, something better comes out, new and improved. Im not in any rush for an upgrade at this point, however I have had to scale the graphics down a bit to accomidate the demo of F.E.A.R.. If I cant play F.E.A.R. at its full potential at its release, then I may consider upgrading.
