Wow, those are pretty impressive specs.

Slap bluetooth and DVI on there coupled with quiet and low-heat performance (i.e. seldom use of noisy fans) and I think we'll have a winner.

14.1 inch is like the perfect combi for gaming and sch..... wish there is a SPDIF output.

not sure how this will compare with the w3v.

There was a discussion going on about the model here. I wish they'd just release this as a barebone now! I'd love to get an asus, but their current 14.1" laptop, the z61a, is the ugliest thing I've ever seen... grrrr
post #5 of 24
although, this m9v will likely be a glare-type screen as well, which is what's keeping me from getting the z63a. Guess asus really doesn't have any standard laptops anymore.

(personally, I'd get myself a z33a and be tickled pink, but I'm not buying for myself.. I'm buying for the girlfriend...)

found the links and pictures on the M9V.....as someone said they saw it on the taiwan website.

click on the first link beside the picture to enlarge it.

it sure looks good....so any retailers know if asus gonna bring it to the US?....or is there a variation to it?

I also find the W6A very interesting.....it has a 13.3inch wxga.....and has a similar enclosure as the W5A in black.....thats what i conclude from looking the pictures.

Specswise on the W6A looks very similar to the W5a...

Spoke with ASUS earlier and they stated the M9V is not currently in the ASUS N.A. planbook.
They will mention it to their PM and contact ASUS Taiwain about it.
There seems to be some demand for the 256MB HyperMemory feature, so who knows.
I will hear back from them soon!

Thanks.

I spoke with ASUS again, we'll have more information by the end of the week.
Until then, they hinted that it's at least a 1280res LCD.

This is a nice model, you're right.
We'll continue working with ASUS on getting this in the US Market sooner [if possible].

On a side note, there's another project underway.
Hint: It's not notebooks...

I will update you guys after ASUS updates us.

ASUS has another project?? Desktops? PDAS?

anyways, im extremely interested in this M9v.

Is this unit a BUILT-On Asus??

Or is it an ensemble unit?

Cos enseble units are like 2-300$ more =\

Also what kinda of prices are we looking at?

Thanks,

If they brought it in, should be a barebone [built on].

ok great news, now i havta import one have half across the universe, mars here we come.

LOL j/k, i'll just wait.. patience is a virtue.

Can someone explain what SPDIF is ?? does that mean i can hook up a home theatre system to it and play movies, games, music and more?

Thanks,

MysticGolem

SPDIF= Sony Philips Digital InterFace. It's basically a digital output, and yes, you can hook it up to your home theater as long as it has a digital input on the reciever.
hmm so SPDIF is basically like Audio Out? and u can connect RCA cables to it and took it up to your TV and have the TV speakers work?

And then use S-Video out to have video display on the TV?

Am i correct with all this? If not can someone explain plz?

Also explain if possible if the M9v can hook up my TV and play a Movie on my laptop. For example i want the Video to show up on the TV and the Audio to come from the TV speakers.

Is that possible for the M9v?

Thanks,

MysticGolem

well, SPDIF is digital, whereas RCA is analog. I'm guessing that your audio-out port is both (because the ones for the Z70 & Z71 series are like that), and if it is, then yes, you can hook the sound up to your television's RCA ports and run the video through S-Video.

However, you will not actually be making use of the SPDIF digital signal unless you connect your audio out port to a digital in port on a stereo reciever or subwoofer.
