dv4000 brightview or not?

Has anyone seen this screen without "BrightView"? I'm nervous about the glossy screen. Does the non-brightview screen just leave off the glossy coating? Aside from the matte vs. shiny surface, are they any other differences, such as viewing angles, etc? I haven't been able to find any stats on angles, contrast ratios, etc.

thanks.

If anyone has seen the dv1000's screen minus the BrightView, I'd be interested in your opinion as well.

Hmm

Every DV1000 and DV4000 in stores has the BrightView option. The only way to get a standard, matte screen is to custom order one through HP. Actually, I did get a DV1000 at my Fry's Electronics with a matte screen a few months back.

You should get the BrightView, it has more vivid colors and I'm not really sure, but the view angle is wider too.

HP is not selling glossy screens just because everybody does, they sell BrightView because is better than the matte screens.

I have a friend who bought the matte screen and now he regrets it, he wants to sell his laptop just because of the screen.

i won't regret the matte screen. It's just more comfortable to read text on. The glossy screen only stops reflecting light at a particular angle in my room.

I'd say go compare it at store, glossy vs non-glossy.

I personally prefer glossy just because the colour is more vivid.

On a negative, if you have florecent light shining on the screen, you'll have a reflection of light at a certain angle. (Which gets pretty annoying)

But overall, I would still choose BrightView.

Here in Massachusetts, there aren't any stores that carry the non-Brightview models (Compusa, Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Depot, and Staples do not have it.) That's why I'm so curious. If I ordered it through hp.com, I'd be going into it blindly.

Also, when you purchase a laptop from Dell, they give the stats (contrast ratio, viewing angles, etc). HP is suspiciously lacking in this area. Therefore, I am unable to figure out if contrast ratio or viewing angles are any different between Brightview and non-Brightview.

I'm not particularly interested in color. I'm not a graphic designer, so I can deal with some flatness in colors. I am, however, a software developer, so I will want to be able to view text on this screen for hours per day - in different lighting situations - without worrying about glare.

If i remember correctly HP does list them in the Service Manuals, or the Spec sheets... The PDF ones...

If you don't mind about the colors...then you should get the matte screen...'casuse it is true that text is easier to read in that kind of screens.

Good luck... Also it may be helpful to other people if you post back here after you get the system saying if you like the screen better or not...
