Optical output

A friend and I both purchased the new alienware laptop. I have some Yamaha TSS-1 speaker system. The speakers have an optical in, coax in, and 4 channel input. My friend's laptop has the light in the optical out working and therefore my speakers work with his laptop. My laptop however, the red light will not come on so I can not get a digital signal out of my machine. I have changed every setting I can think of, from the sound card setting to the DVD setting to output to S/PDIF digitally. I can not get a digital signal out of the S/PDIF at all from my laptop. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Anybody have any suggestions on something else I can try, maybe something in the BIOS?? The other problem for me is I am currently stationed in Iraq so I really can not send it in to Alienware for them to fix at the moment so that is out.

I ordered the 3.2, 1024 Ram, Nvidia card, 15.4" display, DVD-RW, 60G HD. The only difference from his and mine are he has the 16" screen and he didn't get the built in wifi card if that helps any - Thanks SSG Giron

Did you go to the Xear 3D C-Media audio configurator located in the system tray You can turn it on and off there . I hope that helps

Yeah I have that icon, that doesn't help, I do know that on my friends laptop, that will turn on and off the optical, but it does work on mine. Thanks though . . .
