Sager 5320 (NP5320) release (Clevo M560A) - Page 4

Hmm, you're right. This laptop is very heavy for its size (being a 15.4" laptop). On the other hand, the 5720, the 17" laptop is only 0.8 pounds more, giving it the impression of being less dense. How did it end up at 7.5 pounds when all of the competition is more around 6 pounds?

forgot to ask this as well

do you guys think the WUXGA(1920x1200) is excessive for a 15.4 inch screen, or would it look pretty nice.I've never seen this resolution so I'm wondering how tiny is everything going to be on the screen. Or should I got with the WSXGA+(1680x1050).
thx

i have a dell 15.4 @ 1920x1200. its nice, but i really would have liked a glaretype better. i personally have no problem with the size. but if you think it is too small, just increase the font size.

Edit: the difference between 6.5 and 7.5 pounds is not much. This is certianly not the lightest lappy in the world, but its not much heavier than other 15.4's either. i took my 6.65 i6000 and put a 2.5lb weight on it while it was on my lap. i barely even felt the difference. considering that this is only .8lbs heavier, i dont think anyone will really be able to notice it.

also, it is the same thickness as other 15.4's, so its not bulky or anything. if they had an nvidia card in there and a glaretype lcd, id definetly buy it. do any of you pctorque people know if these two things will be available in the future?

Very true. In fact, that's exactly what I preach when I recommend 17" laptops over 15.4". I say that the difference in size is what counts, not the minor differences in weight. I was just a bit disturbed at the notably high weight for its size.

i was too, at first. but then i realized that it was just that 7 that was freaking me out and in reality it isnt all that heavy compared to similair lappys. I would much rather get the 5720 with the bigger glossy display and the full keyboard, but im not sure i want to spend a ton of money on a 7800gtx.
If my predictions are correct, the 5720 should be very similar in cost to the 9880/9890. In addition, the price difference between a 6800 Ultra and a 7800 GTX at Hypersonic is a relatively low $163, much lower than the $350 figure that Dell cites. I could only imagine the Sager pricing to be similar or even less. Even so, you could conceivably downgrade to an Ultra to stay within budget, and it'd still run circles around the X700.
from what ive heard, hte 6800 wont be available for the 5720. im hoping for a non-gtx 7800 go, which seems to be supported in the new nvidia beta video drivers. for wuxga, i think the 7 series is the only way to go due to the more efficient architecture. Also, a 7600go might be a nice option in the future.
6800 Ultra I meant.

BTW, there's a leak from that same site that leaked the G70 details. This time it's about ATI. If those numbers hold true, I think that the mobile parts will present a heck of a challenge for NVIDIA to top. This is good news for consumers like us.
ya, i saw that. the nda should be lifted in a couple days, so we will start to see some more info about it. i just wish ati's linux drivers didnt suck so hard.

i dont really want a 6800ultra just because it uses more power than a 7800gtx and is still slower. id rather get an underclocked 7800 which should run cooler and allow for more battery life while still offering better performance.

Just installed the ATI Catalyst 5.9 drivers on my Clevo M560A and got 2846 on 3dMark05, up from 2793 with the 5.8 drivers

Any ETA on a review of the 5320? I'm interested.

Particular items I'm interested in are:
-battery life (with the modular one)
-heat (i.e., how warm does the machine get; exhaust temp isn't a concern)
-noise level
-sound quality (particularly with headphones)
-screen quality (is the color as rich as the 9860?)
Hey all,

After endlessly looking I have decided to purchase the 5320. As these boards were a huge help for me I would be happy to run any tests asked, with the exception of abusive OC'ing as I cant afford another one! I will be getting the machine on Friday and will be working it out this weekend traveling so I will try to get a decent estimate of battery life. I will also run 3dMark when I get back monday.

Any suggestions on how to improve its performance?

Any specific testing requests?

I game moderately and will be installing a variety, prolly BF2, HL2, Farcry and Painkiller so I will check framerates on those.

And thanks to all on his forum for being hugely helpful!

the colors wont be the same as the 9860 because it is not glossy. from what i have heard it is high quality though.

from the posts in this thread,

heat is good, the only place that gets warm is the right palm rest

noise is good, fans are ussually off

sound quality, its got 7.1 channel so thats always good, headphone sound should be the same as anything else on teh market w/o a dedicated card.

doc, post a ton of pics and do a good thorough review, thats all.
I'd like to see some stock benchmarks in 3DMark03 and 3DMark05 of the 5320. Also any insite on battery life with just the main battery.

(also posted in another thread)
The wee beasty comes tomorrow and I am salivating in anticipation. Have 3dMark 03 and 05 plus Farcry and Painkiller for the weekend. Unfortunately work will probably interfere with my testing/gaming but I will have some benchmarks posted by Monday or Tuesday.

And got my camera ready for pics, Drizek.

Anyone know the link to the Pi Calculator?

let us know how it is...and take lots of pics...=)
Please include lots o' pics and video benchmarks. I was gonna get the 3880, but now I am looking at getting the 5320, but if I wait long enough and beg/pester my wife enough I might get the 5720.
OK, i got it taking pics of the packaging and leaving town so sorry no benchmarks till prolly monday night pst. If i get home early enough I will get some on sunday night. I know how you feel I researched every laptop like a madman till I finally bought the one with no review!?!? What does that say about me?

so I will try to get some form of review up soon as possible
