Video Problems with EA Sports Games???

Has anyone been having problems with EA Sports Games. I have had problems with two, Madden NFL 06 and Tiger Woods PGA 05. On both games, during the initial load up, right after clicking on the icon or putting in the disk, my system begins to freak out. I get a flashing black screen which is pretty much impossible to get out of without a hard reboot. It doesn't neccesarily lock the system up, just makes it impossible to see anything.

I looked on the EA support web site just to find they suggest re-installing the video drivers. I first tried the latest ATI drivers on the Sager site. Now, I'm using the new ATI Catalyst Mobility 5.8. With both drivers, I get the same problem.

Has anyone else encounted this, are there any solutions. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Yeah. I had problem with Tiger Wood 05 freezing my laptop. It didn't like my wide screen res 1680 X 1050. So I ditched the game after many times of reinstall. It was a very good game; I miss playing it. It sucks that excellent EA games like that doesnt support wide screen.
