So far it's the x505 from Sony (and this is also the thinnest in the world), it's only 1.73lbs (10.4" screen)

The laptop you are referring to is the Sony Viao UX505/SP (1.73lbs)
there is also the Sony Viao UX505/CP (1.71lbs)

And here's the nightmare !

Sony UX505/CP - 2799$ USD
(Pentium M 1.1GHz, 512mb DDR, 20gb, English WinXP Professional Edition, Carbon Fiber Case)

Sony UX505/SP - 2949$ USD
(Pentium M 1GHz, 512mb DDR, 20gb, English WinXP Professional Edition, USB mouse, 802.11b/g PCMCIA card, Carbon Fiber Case)

Are you really gonna pay for a laptop giving you prehistoric performance just because its light ? this is , in my opinion , the worst laptop anyone could buy for that amount of money

I mean instead of that laptop , if you wanna stick with sony , i would invest in something like this , Sony® VAIO® VGN-S480 NotebookVGN-S480 , which is only 4lbs , and will give you 3x times the performance you are getting from the X505 ... at around 2.5k$ USD

You know the people who only buy the small milk cartons because they cannot lift the larger ones? I guess a 1.71lbs laptop is designed for them...

Well then buy yourself some wheels fix them under the laptop , and roll it around , its gonna cost you lot less and you wont even notice the weight

It's my sister who's interested in one, not me. I've been telling her it's just the looks she is paying for because the specs of it is really bad.

I'd really just stick with 4 pound lappys. Like the dell 700m. It's what 4.1 pounds. My girlfriend has it and she thinks its really light. She's skinny and weak and she loves it. U'd be wasting money if you bought that other laptop.

there was a QDQ laptop thing that was like 1lbs or something crazy, had 256MB ram, like a 10gb hdd or something, google it, but im not sure if its avalible cuz the thing was a only like twice as thick as a PDA

personally, anything below a 10.4" screen proves to be non-functional and useless...

I too once in a while think that 10.4" is too small.

yeah, that is a decent notebook, screen is nice, but that is were it ends. Performance is ok, and it seems to plasticy and makes it look cheap. But if you are going for light then you are going to sacrifice things.
