LCD Shut-off

When I close the lid to my lappy the LCD doesn't automatically shut off. I was wondering if there is a way to manually turn it off?

Thanks

Go to Power Options in Control Panel.

There is no option to turn off the screen, and I don't want the computer to go into standby.

One fellow posted on here that the screen knew it was closed by some sort of magnetic mechanism where the screen magnets made some switch in the case move (they use magnets to turn off the screen somehow). Perhaps this is not working correctly on your machine?

you're probably not using dell drivers....if you want that feature i hear you should use dells...then again...i'm using direct nvidia drivers (with a modded inf) and it works...but who knows

did you stop any process services ? I know I shut down Ati HotKey Poller and the exact same thing was happening to me. So Go check to see if thats service has stopped and put it on automatic, hope this helps.

Hahaha....its a tiny switch on the motherboard that tells the system when the lcd is open or closed....look above your keyboard...you will see the actuating pin for the switch sticking up....

Hahaha whatever man, the 9300 and the XPS2 have no goofy pin. That's one of the things I've dogged Dell on in the past and I noticed it was gone on the 9300. Unless you own one don't go correcting me in the 9300/XPS2 section of the board.

Sorry for the tone, but to imply I could miss something as obvious as the mechainical actuation of the switch with a pin is frankly a bit insulting.

I was looking and looking for this post in the Pentium 4 notebook section where I THOUGHT I had posted it...my bad...I have had 3 9300's and 1 XPS2 and I know they dont have the stinking pin ( Which I had to fix on a couple of 9100's because they were sticking down when they werent supposed to ). Normally I would have blasted anybody out of the water for your tone , but even I would have snapped back like that if someone insisted I missed something as simple as a stinking pin So my bad...I just forgot where I was posting.

You are totally off topic... you don't even know what are you talking about.

The switch in inside the latch of the notebook screen. The two handles at the bottom there's a pin inside and springs. When the cover closed the springs will push down and when it pushes down, it will push the pin down. Once the pin is down, the monitor goes off and BIOS will apply commands for standby mode.
