Quicktime

Ok this is retarded. I have quicktime installed on my notebook, but everytime I want to watch a video on a website that requires quictime it tells me I need to get quictime 7. (Which Im pretty sure I have.) Any ideas on how I could solve this problem?

Avoid those websites? I do and don't regret it. I won't let Apple install any of its bloated crap on my machine. You could also try QuickTime Alternative. If I absolutely need to view a QT movie, that's what I'll do.

I actually like quicktime, so I would like to know what is wrong with it. Many of the websites I like to visit require quicktime so I don't really want to avoid them. Thanks though.

I will take Quicktime any day ahead of Windows Media Player (save for HD content which seems to run smoother on WMP)

For all that is good and holy tho, I avoid Realplayer like the plague. (RealAlternative is my friend)

My main beef is that Quicktime loves to hi-jack file associations and insists on putting that utterly useless Quicktime agent in my start up. I feel violated and dirty as I clean up the mess it leaves.

Yea, that's pretty much my beef w/ Quicktime too. I've used the QT Alternative off and on but I've found that some internet Quicktime video just won't load. Avoiding these sites is definitely and normally a viable alternative but I'm in school and I've found certain sites and programs I have to use just don't make it with the alternative. As an aside, as far as the file associations hijacks go, almost all these free multimedia progs do the same thing and I'm also sick of each one harassing me to let it be the default player.

BTY, uninstall Quicktime and it will try to leave behind a small file install. When it asks you if you want to leave some files, select the option to uninstall completely. Uninstall completely, reboot and run CCleaner with all the options checked. Then download and install the latest version of Quicktime. If the file still won't load you're out of luck. The problem is probably with the website.
