How loud does 4002 get? and other questions...

Thread Starter
I went to the store today and say Ferrari 4002... I am satisfied with the model, but the only things that bothers me is the noise.

Some reviews say that Ferrari gets hot and loud if you start playing games on it. Is that true? How loud does the fan get?

4002 is pretty much perfect, except the noise and that the screen is not the best. For example, Fujitsu Lifebook 3510 has a much better screen from what I heard.

One more question, can you reformat 4002, and put your own windows XP on it? Can you have both Linux and windows on it? and one more, can you boot from CD (for example, knoppix)?

Thanks in advance

is there any way to get rid of the noise by underclocking it?
i don't see a point oof people under clocking their laptop,
it's better to buy lower specs laptop that's cheaper, than u buy more expensive laptop but intend to down clock it.

my advise is if u use the notebook mainly on your bed room which is silent, dont get a ferrari, cause the noise is definetlly can be heard very clearly, but if u intend to use it more outdoor or in a noisy enviroment, then u will not be dissapointed by the performance.

Same here, the fan is the only problem I have with this notebook! I cant even sleep next to it.
My old Elitegroup didnt make any noise at all unless pushed. So watching a movie.. surfing the web was in complete silence.
But on the other hand I understand that the 4005 requires more cooling... so I'll live with it.

Hopefully in the future.. a bios upgrade will make it silent..
(I doubt it, but that would make this notebook a 10/10 for me)

I have the 4005 and I really don't know why you guys complain about the noise so much. I'm a college student and I use it everyday in classes and you can't even hear the fan. Sure it gets hot and a bit loud when you play game but come on if you are playing a game and you are worried about a bit of noise are you sure you should even be playing it right then? The AC in my house make way more noise then my laptop at night.

I have a Ferrari 4002

Normal usage : fan speed = 1/3, very very silent
Game usage : fan speed = 2/3 to 3/3, can't complain. Dont heard the fan with the sound of the game (with laptop speakers). Then mmm... just play with sound

A friend compared his ferrari 4005 from my ferrari 4002. My ferarri4002 = more quiet. Why ? Perhaps just the highest processor ..

Sure you can reformat the ferrari 4002.
I just installed Windows Xp Pro + Linux (dual boot) on it.
And yes, you can boot from any bootable system cd/dvd like knoopix

For those who said ferrari 4005 is silent, what laptop did u use before the ferrari ??
maybe your older lappie is loud too so that u didn;t notice that infact the ferrari 4005 is louder than much laptop on the market.
my previous laptop is ASUS W1N with 1,6 dothan in it,
and the fan noise , compared to ferrari is like when i gaming hard on my W1N is about the same when ferrari idle.
when the ferrari is gaming hard, u get your self an electric fan :P
ehheheheh

I had a Dell Inspiron 4100 (P-III 1GHz) which was completely silent most of the time - but it alternated between "fan off" and 2 fans at medium. And at medium it was louder than my new ferrari at idle. IMHO it's better to have the fan on constantly than to have it going on and off every 2 minutes.

Lets just hope that it will possible to set the F4005 fan at a lower RPM, once Alfredo Milani Comparetti makes a version of SpeedFan that's compatible

I never heard the fan in my Thinkpad, but I certainly could feel the heat coming out the side when it was on...
My T20 came with a P3-650. I pulled the chip out and replaced it with a P3-1gig, and used the original fan.
The bottom left side of the unit was extremely hot (HD also on that side) and wouldn't last long on bare skin. This F4005 is so much cooler in comparison, but a bit louder, and bigger...

I had an old dell 1gig laptop for awhile that went from fan off to fan on every min or so and it got annoying. I like the fact that the ferrari's fan is always on because it won't make it really loud for a little bit. Even with the fan always on you can't really even hear it. You step a few feet away from it and it will be hard pressed to hear it unless the room is dead silent.

Would undervolting help keeping the sound at low levels? I've heard amazing comments from people using Pentium-M notebooks but I haven't heard anything about how Turions fare in this topic.

This makes me wonder if there is something wrong with my ferrari.
Is there anyone here who can get a good quality sound rip of what their fan sounds like on "low\idle"

Like I have said before I use mine every day and i'm a college student. I even use it in the library between classes and I don't notice it. My typing and using the mouse is way louder than the fan. I have the 4005. I dunno maybe some 4005s are louder than others. I mean I hear it but its far from anything at all.

Naw the keys don't really make much noise at all I just tend to type hard. The touch pad buttons on the other hand they can be pretty noisy.
