Fatal Error

Im trying to fix a laptop and it doesnt want to co-operate

It boots up then the background comes on and the welcome sound. A message pops up and says that there was a fatal error and that MD simple burner has to be re-installed. How can I re-install it if it just shows the background and I cant go into my computer or anything. there are no applications running in task manager either.

I managed to get it to start installing the program, but i get this error while it starts to install... " The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched. No such interface supported.
