It is funny that the only people that say that you will not be able to put a 7800 in a 9300 are the XPS2 owners. You guyz are sooooo saaaad.

It is also funny that the only people that say that you will be able to put a 7800 in a 9300 are the 9300 owners.

I think i will side with the 9300 owners on this one. Someone has already succeeded in making a 6800 ultra work in a 9300 (without changing motherboard and with the same performance as XPS2) and that's more difficult than making a 7800 work in a 9300. The only problem is that you may not be able to buy it from spare parts and may need to prove you've got an XPS2 before you buy i

if the 9300 can use the geforce go 6800 ultra, except it doesnt have power requirements, which I know it can, I do not see any reason a 9300 can't upgrade to the 7800 gtx, however I do think that dell will never sell it with one from their site, though it will probably be upgradeable yourself just ordering it through dell spare parts for an "xps gen 2". This is what I think.

But the point being that an Ultra Worked is that the BIOS allowed it to work. If you look the XPS Gen2 BIOS was recently updated to support the Geforce 7800 card. Unless the 9300 get a similar BIOS update, I do not see it working as DELL "Locks" the BIOS. The Ultra was an easy "upgrade" because it is the same card with minor changes. The Geforce Card has a completely different BIOS, chip configuration, etc.

You can argue it as much as you want. 9300 owners are not going to get that card.

Imagine Dell DOES offer that card for the XPS and 9300. Ok, so you go to configure both machines on the site and the XPS is $700 more then a 9300 with the exact same configuration. Why bother buying the XPS? Hell if that was the case I would have bought a 9300 if they offered the ultra, but they didn't.

You are going to have to deal with the fact that you won't get the card.
Right...and Ive already seen 9300's with 6800 go ultras in them running full speed.

The 9300 owners WILL get this card and make it work too.

Yes we know the 6800 Ultra works in the 9300 whoo hoo It's the same mobo.

What I am saying that dell isn't going to offer the card for the 9300. I don't care if 9300 owners mod their PC to accept that card. If that's the case though it is not logical and will be too expensive.

xps2 bios flash
Geforce go 6800 ultra card (duh)
130W power adapter
9 cell 9300/xps2 battery

How is dell not going to offer it to 9300 owners? We know they wont support it, that doesnt mean they wont let us buy it from their parts store.

Why is it not logical? Whats more logical, spending 2000+ for a new laptop to get the new card or spend 500 dollars for just for the card and parts. I dont know how much the card itself will be, but its an upgrade path for 9300.

Stop trying to be a xps2 elitist and embrace the fact that 9300 owners will get this card as well.

I'm saying dell won't offer it as an upgrade for the 9300, what you do on the side is your deal.

Plus, you never know they may check your information to be sure your an XPS owner to sell you the card.

They are not going to be that stupid and not let you buy a 7800go because you own a 9300. Money is money to them, do you really think they are going deny themselves profit?

I'll be encouraging Nvidia to give us the 7800 Go ultra as should all of you who want one too!

um theres no such thing as a 7800 GTX ultra only 7800 GT and 7800 GTX exist, there is no ultra, it was cancelled.

Are you arrogant or just ignorant?!?! Like I said, I did not say that it was impossible to have one on a 9300, BUT the DELL ****LOCKED*** BIOS would have to be updated to support it because of the different chipset, configurations, etc...man, grow a brain....

It probably is possible, but the fact that the BIOS is locked will probably hinder your efforts...Good luck...BTW, if you install the card yourself and you are not a certified DELL TECHNICIAN did you know that you will void your warranty? Don't believe me? Ask....

It is already possible to flash the 9300 bios to the xps2 one. ITS BEEN CRACKED. IF YOU TOOK THE TIME TO READ THE THREAD YOU WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS AND THEN GUESS WHAT, YOU CAN USE A 6800 GO ULTRA AND A 7800 GO WHICH HAS BEEN ADDED IN THE LASTEST BIOS REVISION.

ALSO, THE SAME BOARD AS THE XPS2. WHAT DIFFERENT CHIPSET ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?

Why dont you grow a brain and get back to me when its developed

Buddy grab some glasses while you're at it...here's an excerpt from the guy who "cracked" the bios in his own words...

"That said, I'm done. The patched (cracked?) exe I have should run on a 9300 and update the BIOS. Several other things will really need to be done to run the 6800 Ultra on the 9300, though:

1) Power. Needs more power. Spare parts might have the XPS 2 power supply and it might be replaceable. Will also require a XPS 2 power brick. Yarg.

2) Bios checks removed for the battery. Cuz I'm not upgrading to a 9 cell battery.

3) figuring out how to underclock the 6800 Ultra would be the safest bet. I wouldn't run it at stock until you see how well it handles running on the 9300 heat layout"

Why don't you just admit that you feel shafted that you can't afford an XPS2 and have to "hack" your way (and void) your warranty by the way to do it? freak;..
