Make sure the AC Adapter is plugged in... Let it charge... There should be a charge light when you plug in the AC... if not let me know... Also make sure the light on the AC adapter is on...

Also what colors are the 2 lights?

thanks for the reply teckng778, the light for the ac adapter is actually on the laptop, but it dosen't come on. i've tried removing all the extra stuff to see if was shorting out the laptop, removed the cpu and reseated it, removed the cmos battery and everything. still nothing has helped. do you think the board is gone and can new one be purchased for this computer.

Do CPR on the power button... Heres what you do...

1) Remove the battery..

2) Remove the AC Adapter

3) Press the power button repeatedly a few times...

4) Plug in the AC Adapter ONLY...

5) Repeat step #3. Stop as soon as you hear the fans turn on... It should work with in the first 10 presses...

If that doesnt work then you may have a bad power jack on back of the laptop which is connected to the systemboard. In many cases you can solder it back on. However its a pain... You can also buy a new board or have HP replace it if its under warranty... If its not you can go to someone like, ikenfixit.com (Ill have him look at this if you like)... If i remember correctly and am correct about your problem i think he will charge you $169.00 USD to fix the problem.

i tried the cpr method but was still unable to get any results. the laptop is a 1.7 centrino, 512mb, onboard intel video, 100gig hdd. i had just reinstalled winxp pro on it about 1 week before it stopped working. used all the drivers from the hp web site. for some reason i could never get the drivers for the usb port to work. i guess i should have given all this info in the first post. sorry for being late with it

The part i think you need, which is the systemboard is part no: 393655-001

Its about $450 though HP but you may be able to find it on ebay for cheaper... That would be the easiest fix... Because i think you have a damaged power jack which is connected to the laptop... Though Im not 100% sure... Someone will need to look at it.

If its just the jack someone that knows what they are doing like ikenfixit, would likely fix it for about $170... If its the system board it will be what ever they can get the board for plus the labor... Bottom line, someone needs to look at it.

Tekng778, if i send it to ikenfixit, and the diagnose the problem and tell me what the what the repair price will be and i don't think it's worth getting fixed what will i have to pay. i know i will have to pay shipping but what will they charge me for there diagnostics. if it's too expensive for me i can just use the parts in my other laptops. i bought the hp for my wife but would love to have the dvd+/- in my 2.6 p4 dell. she'll never use it anyway. my brother works for dell in the referb department. i told him how helpful this forum is and he says that he will be dropping in from time to time to see if he can help out with some of the problems people have. thanks for all the help

I dont know what it will cost to have ikenfixit diagnose the problem... Personally, if it were me... I would part the machine... The hard drive is worth a good deal. So is the processor... Memory is cheap, batteries are worth about the same as memory... Screens are worth a good deal, CD-rom drives are also worth lots...

Im glad we can get more people on the forums and any help in any of the sections would be greatly appreciated...

man, i really like the look of the laptop and the screen looked a lot better than mine. i think i'm gonna email ikenfixit to see what they think it will be to diagnose the machine, and if it dosen't cost more than 300usd to repair i'll have it repaired. like i said the machine performed greatly when it was working.

Do you work for HP or something...?

I would recommend against giving this man your serial/model... If you call HP/Compaq they can check the information for you.

I would love to get my hands on a failed unit? Does it look like its heat related? Are capacitors leaking... Anything?

me too

Hey, my DV1311SE laptop just went dead as described like others. As it was still under warrenty, (only 2 months old) it was sent for repair. I received it back yesterday from FedEx, and i was so happy that it worked (as i am useless without my computer) Anyway i was in the middle of writing a paper for school (last minute of corse) AND IT DID IT AGAIN. i was so upset. no lights, no nothing. Called up HP, i have to send it back again.

What bothers me is that when i sent it the first time, they had told me that it was the motherboard, and that motherboards for this laptop are 'backordered'. So it was to take a little longer, ok that is fine. But they told me last night that they 'reworked a washer', and did nothing to the motherboard, and now they will need to replace the motherboard.

Now i am not good with the mechanics of laptops, but the person i spoke with could not tell me what 'reworked a washer' ment either.

Just thought that i would share my story with ya'll, as i anxiously await the return of my functioining laptop

We dont charge for diagnostics here at all.. These will most likely be another HP issue soon.. New Centrino design boards also are subject to failing FET's like the older units. List what these are doing.. IE Power on No POST no BOOT? Or completely dead? We can help...
