The notebook is a MSI 1029.
There is a review for that available in this forum.
Ive bought from buyxg before (my radeon card).
I am looking into buying the xg action 6000 from buyxg too
because
1) they have a 5% off going on right now (with code "SUPER")
2) Free shipping

The MSI 1029 ships with 1 gig of ram , x700 (128 mb) and a 80 gig, wireless
hard disk ships for around 1205 (without windows)

Around 100 bucks off the xmeld price i think.
SOunds like a good deal.

I bought a Skt 939 A64 desktop from Extreem Gear (XG) last x-mas and it shipped in a CyberPower box, so yes, the fact that the configurators are the same and that it came in a CyberPower box leads me to believe that XG is just another Web front end for Cyber PC or CpberPC does the build for XG. I also think some of my invoice paperwork i received had CyberPower on it.

I also think the ibuypower.com website is really a CyberPower Web front also as it has the same configurator. All 3 sites call the MS-1029 a differant model name, but the prices are very close and definetely the best around. Notice that an upgrade to a 7200 rpm 60G HD is only about $45, most other sites want around $100 ++ for a 7200 rpm HD upgrade.

ps- I had a pblm with the Nec 3500 DVD writer in my PC and working with the XG customer support site I had a tech dispatched to my home in about 3 days to replace the drive, and that was the week between X-mas and Newyears, so i would say there service is OK!!!!

Ok, Cyberpower and XG have the exact same mailing address, but different support and sales lines. ibuypower is in a different city, but it is not uncommon for people to use anothers companies web design.

When you get your notebook, can you do us a favour and test your ram frequency by downloading CPU-Z? AFAIK XG only puts in 2x512 MB of ram, and it has been reported that the ms-1029 notebook downclocks the ram if you put in two sticks. I'm not 100% sure about this, though.

Look in the "frequency" field in CPU-Z... if it says 199 (or 200), then your ram is operating at 400Mhz. If it says anything lower (like 127) then the ram is being downclocked.

Sure no probs

Sure, will benchmark the ram.
Will also be setting up linux, so probably will also write a howto
on getting debian onto this laptop.

However - they do take very long to ship.
I placed my order on 24th. The estimated ship date is 7th Nov
On asking the sales when it will ship they said 7-15 days.
The estimated ship time reflects more 15 than 7 to me.
Can hardly wait!!

Just to answer some of the questions brought up, we are an affiliate of Cyberpower so we use their boxes for shipment. We do not have any affliation with iBuyPower, they are a seperate company.

Wandering : When I type up the notebook orders I put the 10th business day on there. Of course it could always ship sooner than that. Hope that answers your question

I clicked on your VeriSign Secured Seal link and this is what I saw in the identity section:

CYBERPOWER, INC. has been verified as the owner or operator of the Web site located at www.buyxg.com. Official records confirm CYBERPOWER, INC. as a valid business.
So... cyberpower owns your website? how closely are you linked to them? Do you assemble the laptops separately, or along with them? What about quality control and after sales support?

I'm asking these questions because frankly quite a few people on these boards have been less than impressed by cyberpower, especially with their after sales support, and general quality of the laptops they build.

We use the same production team, tech support and QC people that Cyberpower utilizes. I understand Cyberpower does not have a good reputation on these forums for not having stellar after-market support. We do try however to ensure that our customers are satisfied. With all laptop products if they are sent in for repair we will have to send them to the appropriate manufacturer to get serviced. We do not actually make the actual barebone laptop we recieve hence why this needs to be done. You can compare our ratings with theirs if you wish. The link to that is http://www.resellerratings.com/seller7227.html I hope this answers all the questions you have

If you got the XGAction 6000 or 3000 can you please tell me what kind of games work for you. Thnx
post #14 of 23
I will be kinda hard to list all compatible games that work with these notebooks, I would recommend you check with the manufacturers website of the game you plan on playing. The 6600 on the XG Action 3000 is a mid level card as is the X700 Pro 128MB on the XG Action 6000 so it kinda depends on the performance level for a particular game

So I'm looking for a notebook that can play games like Battlefiled 2 at least exceptionally well and I have decided to buy it from BuyXG. But I do not know which notebook to go with. I want to be able to run atleast most of the games I buy, so I narrowed the choices down to the Action 6000 and the Action 3000. Which one would you choose to play good games like Battlefield 2?
Battlefield 2....

I believe both those laptops will run the game, however it wouldn't be all that well. Battlefield has been known to tax high end systems with 2 GB of ram, so I dunno how successful the laptops would be. If your looking to play Battlefield 2 well I would probaly go with a desktop or a really high end laptop.

Cpu-z

Well got the laptop today. its awesome!!
buyxg threw in a laptop case for free
The laptop reached me in 10 days (from the order), which for me is pretty good. And they included a small manual which shows how to replace the cpu and ram, and hard disk with photos.
So overall it was a good buying experience.

now about the laptop.
i ran cpu-z and ...................., the ram does run at FSB 199 MHz , multiplied by 4 gives you a core speed of 800 Mhz whopee

will post a detailed review shortly. (even though this is a msi 1029 and unleadeds review is pretty comprehensive)

Congratulations... glad your RAM is working properly. Btw, I think you're supposed to multiply the cpu-z value by 2, not 4, so the speed is 400Mhz, which makes sense because that is the speed at which the RAM is rated to run at. Don't forget to post your cpu-z screenies in your review!
