NVIDIA is going to launch their mobile G70 to be officially known as GeForce Go 7800 GTX on Sept 29th and it will be available immediately on the day of launch. 7800 GTX Go is packed with 302M transistors and is clocked at 400MHz core / 550MHz memory. It will deliver twice the shader power, 1.6x more geometry than the GeForce Go 6800 Ultra launched a year back. It will have the same TDP as the Go 6800 Ultra and is pin compatible and comes with PowerMizer 6.0 technology. 7800 GTX Go scored 6642 and 14704 in 3DMark05 and 3DMark03 respectively compared to 7697 and 3425 on the 6800 Ultra Go.

$500.. you needed the motherboard upgrade? or is that the price of the video card?
If you want to have the Ultra you need :

- New AC Converter
- The new card
- A tweak of your motherboard

Normally the 500$ is for the package and not only the card.

any idea if this will fit in my i9300? guess not eh (power requirements and such)

I guess all those XPS2 users will now see the light of buying a sager.

Shit, lucky. I've almost sold my old 9860, and I was lucky I came here and heard this. No way am I getting a 9880 with a 6800 go now... shit.

I thought the XPS2 will also get the upgrade as well

I wonder how many pipes this will have? GF6800GoUltra had 16 like it's desktop counterpart, so mabye 7800goGTX will have 24 like the desktop version?

The Ultra go has 12 pipes.

I apologize - it was about 7 bills. Not sure where I got 5 bills, maybe I was hoping only that much.
The 7800Go GTX will have 16 pipes, 400MHz core speed, and be built on the 110nm transistor level. It is almost an exact duplicate of the chip on the desktop 7800 standard, which also has 16 pipes but a 375MHz core.

I still think it's funny how a platform change can make nVidia's marketing department name one chip a "GTX"-level and another a "standard"-level.

But, eh. As long as it works, that's all that matters.

I thought the XPS-2s were not upgradable?? I am sure newer one will have it available, but I didnt think an XPS-2 customer could call dell up, order the new card, and plug it in like we can . . . or am I wrong? (its been known to happen, Karma pointed it out once haha)
i called up dell and they said i could order the card and plug it in. it should also be available for sale on the launch date.

however when i do, i would have to take my entire computer apart to install the gpu since it's not readily accessible like the clevo clones. simple enough task as i've done it a few times already for as5 application

Unfortunately you seem to be wrong (again ). There is a rather large thread in the Dell 9300/XPS2 forums regarding them getting the 7800Go GTX.

Dell Sales confirm 7800go gtx for XPS2 and I9300

I'm hoping it's just a plug-in on the Clevo clones or at least AW will sell me the "kit" (mobo, ps, video or whatever is needed) so I can do it myself without sending it in for a month or two.

AW wont sell you a kit to do it yourself if you have to do the mobo man... its gonna have to go in. sad but how it is....

Better than nothing at all, I say.
yea, maybe. but I don't think it's going to be worth the upgrade if I have to send it in for a month or two. I need mine on a daily basis so that's out if I can't do it myself.
