MX6 v.s Acer Ferrari 4005

I know I'm posting in a Hypersonic forum, but I was looking for an unbiased opinion on the two notebooks. I'm an Architecture student that uses programs such as Sketchup, Formz, Autocad and Photoshop, and was wondering which of these two would be the best for using these types of 3-D intensive programs. The Ferrari uses a 64bit amd Turion procesor, and a slower ram (DDR 333) vs. the pentium centrino DDR2 533 found in the MX6, but I've heard that AMD went with the slower ram because it was just as fast as the DDR2 found in the pentiums? But aside from that fact, and the styling of the two, they are pretty much identical. The Ferrari also has a slot loading cd drive, which I think is hella cool. But thats all I have to ask, thanks for your opinions in advance.

Hey there Zero55

Well my buddy in the office here has an AMD64 2.0G machine (not an Acer ferrari) with 1 gig of ram, while I have the MX6 P4 2.0G with 1 gig of ram. I can honestly say they are pretty close in performance. Boot up time into WinXP is identical, we both play EQ2 and CounterStrike. Mine performs slightly and I mean slightly better with EQ2, while his performs slightly better with CS.
I believe either one of these machines can run the programs you list. The AMD might handle your autocad a little better. I would max out mem on either machine though...just to be safe.
Acers are good machines I have an acer tablet that has taken a beating but still rocks. Well I baby my MX6 I really dont let anyone touch it, but thats just cause of ma paint job

As for slot loaders there are drop dead sexy, I love the one in my Powerbook.

I say go for the one you think is sexier, I don't think you will be dissapointed in either machine.

Also I live in photoshop on my MX6 and it runs just fine.

The MX6 is the ASUS Z71V, which is what I have, and overall I am very satisfied with it. However, beware if you are going to use a laptop lock on the MX6/Z71V, since it will block 2 of your USB ports. I did not find this out till later . The Acer Ferrari 4005 will be slightly faster in games, but for CAD, they should be pretty equal. In my opinion, the Ferrari looks nicer, and it does have the Turion in it, but you will probably be happy with either machine.

I don't think in the "real world" the memory speed will make a big difference. You'll might want to upgrade to 2 gigs of memory.

I think that for you the 64-bit processor may be an advantage. Programs like AutoCad will be the first to be written to take advantage of it.

You guys rock, thanks. I'm leaning now towards the Ferrari, and upgrading the ram. The Ferrari does look very nice, and should handle future apps as well. But don't get me wrong, I'll still be "observing" the MX6 for atleast a couple more days before I make my final choice. You just have to love a bright red notebook that screams sexy.
