How's the non-glossy screen on the 14" HP dv1000 series?

I'm considering an HP dv1000 series notebook. I was playing with one the other day at Staples and I am definately not impressed with the glare-type screen. I have a Gateway 7405gx with a 15.4" glossy screen, which I love, but this HP's screen didn't look so hot. I checked it out at a couple of other stores and saw the same thing on the dv1000-series models. So, how good is the non-glossy screen on the dv1000? If you have one or have seen one, please share your thoughts. The glare-type ones I saw at the store had poor viewing angles and the colors were strange sometimes.

Hmm

I can say that finding a DV1000 with a non-glossy screen at computer stores will be extremely hard. I've seen dozens of models at different stores and have only seen on with a non-glossy screen at my local Fry's. It was a nice screen, decent. But I'd much rather perfer its glossy screen.

Actually, there are different manufacturers of the screens for the DV1000's. I remember seeing two different models at my Fry's, both with the glossy screen. I noticed that one screen was signicantly brighter than the other and both were at the maximum brightness setting.

I too am not a fan of the glossy screen... I guess over 11 years of using the normal ones kinda makes you love them too much...

They dont glare as much and work great. The glossy (Brightview) screens have move vibrant colors, though i cant tell a differnce in colors..

Yeah, all of the stores I've seen the dv1000's in are glossy, but you can order it without the glossy screen from both Staples and HP. I love the glossy screen on my Gateway 15.4", but the dv1000's screen looks pretty bad next to it. Strangely enough, the 17" HP notebooks look even better than my Gateway's (my brother just picked up an HP 8000-series HP and the glossy screen is GORGEOUS).

Is the glossy screen on the DV1000 different to the glossy screen on the DV4000?

After many years owning laptops with standard matte screens after getting a DV4000 I'm definately a gloss convert
