What speed memory (RAM) does your Amilo M3438G have?

My 2 x 512mb DDR2 modules are PC2-3200 (400MHz)

You can find out by running SiSoft Sandra - a great benchmarking tool - and accessing the "Mainboard information" icon.

The only reason I ask is that Fujitsu said nearly 100% of their M3438Gs are shipped with 533MHz RAM.

I wondered who else got 400MHz instead?

I got my laptop from LaptopsDirect.co.uk

The technical information of the RAM that was shown from my SiSoft Sandra program was:

Samsung M4 70T6554CZ3-CCC 51039F91 512MB 8x(32Mx16) DDR2-SDRAM SO-DIMM PC2-3200U-333-6012 (CL5 up to 200MHz) (CL4 up to 200MHz) (CL3 up to 200MHz)

I'd very much like to see what other people got to see if I should have got (or could claim for) 533MHz modules instead.

Was that expensive to do? How much benefit will you see?

I'm kinda disappointed that 400MHz was bundled, as I was forced to make an educated guess from Fujitsu's technical support - due to LaptopsDirect not being able to inform me of such specifications even after phoning and emailing. They said to contact Fujitsu technical support, which I did.

Thanks

it was about £90 with free delivery. cant say about any speed increase as i received the RAM before the laptop so installed it before i could compare to the 2x256mb 400mhz it came with.. sorry. i doubt it makes a massive amount of difference though.

Ahh, you went for the 1.73GHz version. Kewl. Do you reckon you'll ever upgrade the CPU, as well?

I went for the pre-configured 2Ghz with 1Gb RAM version.

How much dya reckon a 2.23GHz CPU would cost to buy (and install yourself)?

Am also wondering if it would ever be possible to overclock this thing (CPU, not GPU) as Fujitsu have pretty much locked and hidden every aspect of the bios. =/

For what it's worth, mine's also got 400 MHz RAM modules. So count four...

Got a 2GHz version yesterday from Laptops Direct in the UK and mines 400 as well - I'm thinking of writng to the company as their website quite clearly states the spec as 533 - we'll see though because I want to upgrade to 2GB anyway.

I got mine from laptopsdirect a month ago and never saw anywhere on the site which states this model (the 2Ghz) is 533 for the RAM? Only the lower specced one states this if that is what you are refering to?

Click on the Info link it clearly states the RAM speed - heres the snippit

If anybody's interested in upgrading memory wise,
Ebuyer has got Kingston memory 1Gb PC4200 sodimm 533 Mhz (1 sodimm)
for around 68 pounds, free shipping ( if you decide for delivery time of a week).

Buzz, I wrote a very polite but firm email to Laptops Direct last week (last Thursday) regards the 533MHz RAM but am yet to hear a reply.

Fujitsu said effectively 100% of their laptops are shipped with 533 RAM, so Laptops Direct must've specifically ordered 400MHz.

I actually phoned and emailed Laptops Direct several times to check what speed the RAM was prior to purchase but they couldn't tell me and instead referred me to Fujitsu technical support - which I did do - who were the ones who told me effectively all laptops had 533 RAM.

Laptops Direct also promised a £10 refund for postage as it took them 14days to send me the laptop after I had paid in full for it even though it had been in stock several times, but they haven't done so..

Not impressed.

Yeah that info link is newly added, when I ordered my laptop and months before there was never an info link for that model on laptopsdirect site. I also rang to ask whether the RAM was DDR2 and the speed, but all they said was "we only know whatever it says on the website, if its not on there we don't know".

Kieran - please keep us informed if you hear anything from Laptops Direct.

Kieran, mine also has 400 MHz modules, and I didn't buy from Laptops Direct but rather from a local shop here in Spain, so it may be Fujitsu who's giving incorrect of contradictory information.

Would changing the RAM from 400MHz to 533MHz require a new, complete Windows XP re-install?

Will the Bios auto-detect the new RAM configuration? (seeing as we can't access the related Bios settings?)

Wish I had 533Mhz... but no, just the plain 400 here as well.
