How do I connect my PS2 keyboard to my USB only laptop?

Well looking at the back and sides of my ferrari 4005 I notice one thing, no ps2 ports for my keyboard.
I have the M$ wireless elite keyboard/mouse, the mouse is usb, but the keyboard is ps2.
I tried one of them ps2 -> usb addapters made for mice, but the keyboard just didnt work.
I there a special connector I need to get the keyboard to connect to usb? or am I stuck buying a docking station? if I have to get a docking station can someone recomend one for my 4005?

Thanks in advance.

I think a new wireless desktop that is all usb might be cheaper than buying a docking station

They do make PS2 to USB adapters, (Newegg ) but I don't know if you need a driver to use them, it says you don't...

Hmm a couple of the ones on newegg seem pretty good, I'll have to give one a shot if I can find it locally, wish someone had a review on how it worked with a wireless keyboard, I'm just worried I'll lose some of the extra features of the keyboard and be stuck with an expensive normal keyboard.

I dont know if you can get teh ms wireless elite in usb only though, and I dislike the feel of logitech keyboards. So a docking station might have to be my only option, at 100 bucks though, it sucks

Which one do you have? I was looking at the microsoft site, and all the ones I looked at said USB OR PS/2...I know that my logitech setup gives me the option of using bothe the USB AND the PS/2 connection (PS/2 for the mouse) or just leaving the PS/2 off and having it all go over USB...perhaps it is just a software configuration you need to change....

I have this one
http://www.microsoft.com/products/in...6aac7&type=ovr

the Pro I guess is what I have, could have sworn it was the elite, but in any case I have an older one (16 months) and it only has usb for the mouse. maybe best buy will exchange it for me if I put up a stink?

or maybe there is a specific crossover I need? I downloaded the latest drivers so it cant be that, or I wouldnt think it to be anyways.

I'd be careful if you want to use your extra features. I have one of those ps2 to usb adaptors that I picked up in taiwan. I have a samsung keyboard (wired) that has basic multimedia functions, volume control, and browser mail hotkeys (no drivers required for the keyboard). Those buttons work fine when I just use the usb connection, but when I use the usb to ps2 adaptor included with the keyboard in conjunction with the ps2 to usb adaptor, the extra buttons don't work. There are no connection problems, but the extra functions are lost and I'm stuck using a normal keyboard. test it out if you can, I haven't been able to make the extra stuff work through the ps2 to usb adaptor

thats what I am worried about
I use the secondrary function of some of the keys all the time.

I'll have to swing by best buy on my lunch here.

If you would read the instructions, I'm pretty sure you would see that you either plug in both PS2 ports or the one USB port. Just plug the USB port into your laptop and both the mouse and keyboard should work. My friend has that exact same setup (the non-ergenomic model of that keyboard) and he just plugged in the one USB port.
