Ok i have an older compaq desktop and a new 9300 laptop. My dsl comes into the desktop and WiFi to the laptop.
Can i get a wireless card for the desktop and be able to move it somewhere else? If so Does it has to be a specific one or about any will do?

You can use either PCI or USB. A wireless adapter can be had for ~$20 (after rebate). If you are running Win 98, I'd go PCI.

If you're running a desktop that still runs Win 98 I'd shoot it to put it out of its misery....
but yeah, you should be able to run any PCI or USB wireless equipment with the router. My home system is all Linksys except this laptop and my other laptop. No problemo's at all.

If a given card is "802.11b", "802.11a" or "802.11g" certified than it will work on any certified equipment for that standard. You should have no problems with either PCI (sure) or USB, provided that you have the drivers for W98. Since it's a desktop, I also recommend PCI.

And yes, you can move it around and you will still have the connection. In my home, I can connect from the other side of the street, and the router is inside the house (all brick walls).

yeah, it's just like on a wired network..
All you have to do is connect them all to the same network and set up what files you want shared. Personally I only keep one folder open for that, especially on wireless.
