Restore pad scroll feature?

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
For deskop use, I use a mouse for my 9300. However, now when I use it without the mouse, the scroll feature on my pad no longer works. This may be a dumb question, but does anyone know how to restore that?

When you installed that mouse's software, it removed your Dell Installed ALPS Control Console.

This reverts your touchpad to operating on a basic, generic driver from Windows.

When I "installed" this IntelliMouse, I did not even open the package with the CD and instructions for install,
as I did not want to lose the basic ALPS Console which has eleven pages of settings going way beyond 'scrolling'.

The only 'install' I had to do was to tell Bluetooth to find it. After that, Windows installed it as a Human Interface Device
and loaded nine Drivers for it, then it showed up in the ALPS Console as "Other Device"
and settings from this Console applied to the IntelliMouse.

The Dell ALPS Driver (2MB Zip file), download to your desktop from {HERE}

The normal install procedure would just be to double-click the file on your desktop.

You *may* need to remove the *other* mouse driver first, at least that is what I would do.
I had known from long ago about installing other mouse software removing touchpad controls,
so never did that.

After you have done the above, just plug in your external mouse and it shoul be installed by Windows without harming ALPS.

You should also be able to choose in BIOS Setup for the TouchPad to be active when external device is present, or not.

Blah...
Plug and play
And I can still use my touchpad features...
Though debating whether to just uninstall and save some ram lol...

Know you can't successfully run two different mouse driver programs at the same time.

Anyone try having two hardware profiles, one with each driver only?

Or would just two 'user profiles' do it?

I don't think having two user profiles would change anything, you would still be forced to use the same device setup. I could be wrong on this, but I don't think that would fix your problem.

Hardware Profile (and use Device Manager to "disable in this profile" (one set of drivers) might be an answer for those who want some deluxe features on an external mouse that can't be set in their ALPS Console (like re-programing thumb buttons). It is not of any concern for me to even experiment with the idea.

I would expect a reboot into that profile would be needed, but I can dock while suspended in a non-dock Profile and it wakes up in the Dock, With a few beeps (but no reboot) and it is now in a new Docked Profile. My thought here would be to have a wireless (RF) laser mouse attached only to the Dock and using a Logitech Driver While Docked without destroying your TouchPad Console when un-docked.

The latest buzz on coming *new* mouse features is a Zoom Function, but I already have that with a Ctrl + Wheel or edge scroll for zooming in/out.

Found what looks like a good solution from Logitech on the above problem:

"...have full functionality of the touchpad..."{HERE}

edit; I see that the link just goes to Logitech's Forum Homepage, so here is a copy of the solution:

Only one driver can control the PS/2 mouse port at a time. Since the internal touchpad is connected over the PS/2 mouse port (internally), you can't use a Logitech mouse on the external PS/2 port and expect them to both have all their features.

You should be able to have SetPoint run the mouse on the USB ports and still have full functionality of the touchpad on PS/2. Try: 1) uninstall the touchpad's drivers, 2) install SetPoint, 3) re-install the newest version of the touchpad's drivers.

Would think that the method above could also be used for IntelliPoint, Kensington, Targus or whatever external mice Driver's install.
