External HD recommendation

Thread Starter
I will be editing with my Dell 9300 and need an external HD for the video files. Any recommendations for a large drive with sufficient speed to guarantee smooth video playback?

My USB2 drive does about 25 Mbs. You'll probably get that with either Firewire or USB2. Firewire uses less processor. I'd say any 7200 RPM drive will give you similar results.

ozoneets,

I recommend get an external sata enclosure. You can get them fairly cheap. and buy a nice size 7200rpm sata hdd. Also get a pcmcia sata card. you'll get about 40-50mbps.

I currently have two sata 250gb Seagate barracudas that i have in external sata enclosures that i use with my sata pcmcia. I use one for recording video the other for storage and scratch disk.

just my two cents.

I currently have the NexStar2 USB2.0 Drive Enclosure from Vantec with a 250gb EIDE 7200rpm HD. Works perfectly fine, also supported under linux.
