Please help! Very dim Screen Suddenly on Inspiron 6000

Its strange.,,, out of the sudden, my Inspiron 6000 produced a strange background sound... something like piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.... seriously.... and the LCD screen gone all dim... making it impossible to see through anything... the Screen had not gone completely dead.. but its not even viewable either... What can be the problems... guys help me out... i dont want to spend weeks sending it to DELL.... any suggestion will be highly appreciated,,,

sounds like the backlight in the LCD died. Try hooking up an external monitor to eliminate anything video card wise.

thanks for the reply... yeah, i hooked an external monitor and it worked... so its not the graphic card problem... Does it mean the LCD is gone?

more than likely will have to call Dell for a replacement

I am pretty sure it is the back light. It is like a CHEAP part. Call and have the back light replaced under warranty I assume.

yes, as others have said, it sounds like the backlight, although im not sure if dell will chaned it. They miht just give you a whole new screen.
