Check this out guys , looks awsome , Im contemplating canceling my order for my AW 7700 laptop becuase I really cant afford to wait without a machine if something goes wrong with , and I havent had decent customer service and my order has been delayed 3 times.... and I couldnt get anyone to phone me about my order....

http://www.clevo.com.tw/products/M570A.asp

what do you think of this machine? I might wait till it gets released in australia as i think it would better serve my use , and looks alot more portable

cheers

jesse

nice system.

here are a few things that the 7700 offers beyond what this system offers:

4 memory slots 4gb total. clevo has 2 slots 2gb total
2 drive bays allowing RAID and SATA. clevo has 1
P4 proc, desktop spec. Clevo offers M chip.
A few other smaller things, like 2 firewire slots instead of 1 in the clevo, etc.

Uh, the 7700 is a clevo based platform, what makes you think your wait will be any less annoying if something happens to your clevo instead of your AW?

If you're unhappy with AW's service, that's one thing, but assuming AW's supplier that doesn't do major retail sales will be any better isn't something you should conclude.

I agree though, if the 7700 is too big, get something else, but pickins is kinda slim at the moment.

Seems to me there IS no comparison...apples and oranges. With no RAID, and no Desktop Processor...that machine doesn't come close to a 7700.
It has approx same specs as the dell xps 2.
It does not even come close to the 7700...why compare it
post #7 of 27
in terms of extra features.... the 7700 blows that one away...

There are laptop companys that sell these systems with 72 hour turn around warranty with free courier pick and shipping thats why (sorta confused now that I just found this out)..... I just put my faith in AW and maybe I am unlucky with there service so far.... Its not just the service , they have no idea what stage my laptop is in , and just throw random reasons to me....

Im just asking about peoples opinions on the laptop m570a not about me and AW

Cheers

Well what do you actually want to do with it? 2 GB vs 3 GB isn't going to be much of a difference for most things. Going from 1 to 2 will be more noticeable, not to mention 512MB to 1GB but for most people 3 GB really is overkill. Same with RAID 0. If you want it for gaming, RAID 0 isn't going to help much. Video, compilation, CG, that'll get some milage out of it. As for RAID 1, that's cool if you feel you need a regular backup system. P4 vs. PM, I'd take a PM any day, but that's me and you'll find a couple hundred threads arguing both ways. The D900T fills a niche. If you're not in that niche, don't get it. Without more info on your purposes, it's hard to recommend one over the other.

If i was a company with a multi billion dollar profit i'd be able to give you next day service, pay for the freight and come to your house and give you a hug. Alienware is a botique vendor, unlike much bigger companies they dont have the ability to pick up your laptop tomorrow and have it back to you yesterday. As far as i can tell they do the best with what they got customer serivce wise. I've had Dell's for years and i've had just as many problems as happy stories with their service, alienware seems no different.

Some days your the dim some days your the sim.

Just listening to music? The P4 is better for encoding, A/V, rendering, etc. I'd say the PM is better for gaming by a hair. I'm probably starting another war right now. Here's an interesting article, though.

http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20050525/index.html

And another though bear in mind the differences in system setup.

If you're taking it to clients' houses every day, you may want to weigh the options (no pun intended) of having a desktop replacement. They're freaking heavy. And if battery life is an issue, you'd be better off with the PM. Heat isn't an issue with them like it is with a P4 and they can be overclocked easily and safely. Regardless, it's a question of tradeoffs. Both will rock for gaming. I'd say the 7700 is a little better all around, but you sacrifice mobility, battery life, and have to deal with heat issues. Decide if that's worth it to you.

Thanks for those articles blowfish.... I think ive made up my mind... And I will be using it for writing music (not just listening), so I guess it a bit of encoding but mainly proccessing all the effects and virtual instruments...

Anyway Im going to cancel my order now as its been delayed 4 times.. and they cant give me a straight answer .... phone call this afternoon " Um im not sure ... err no it wont be ready, It should ship by friday but im not sure if it will... phone back on friday we should know then .. .. I can tolerate the wait , just not the the fact that after one month they have no clue about my system.... I dont care what planet your from that aint CS ... I dont care what sort of company they are thats just plain BS... and to everyone else.. if your happy with them good luck to you ...

Cheers

jesse im hearing your pain too dude.. most of the guys here havent had much to do with alienware australia (mind u it sound like they could be very similiar to AW world wide)... Ive had a few bad dealings with them myself and it is very true they dont seem to be organised or know what to tell you.. i cant stand the whole "call me back on friday.. it should be ready then".. thats pretty damn poor CS...

Ive just placed an order though and live in hope that AW will do it right.. im not in to much of a hurry though for my 7700 so there isnt really much AW can do wrong lol... Will obviously keep everyone posted as to how that goes though.. but tell me dude, if you can.. where was the bottleneck with your order? what did you order? or basically they just kept telling you different stories each time you called..? Damn dude sorry you got screwed round so much, that sucks

Well the problem basically as I stated , and yeah it does suck... I think when your paying for a premium product you really need premium service... and its just not there.... If you can handle the wait and can handle that if something happens to your laptop , chances are you wont see it for a month or more....then thats all good... I guess I got excited and bought from AW before reading the forums...

And to be honest I dont care if they are running the company from the back of the truck... after one month youd expect they would have an insight on your machine... instead of playing dumb...

Well good luck with your machine bro Hope it works out for you... think im gona buy from another place or build my own , which sounds the best way to go ....Ive been building machines for about 15 years and if the parts are available ill build the latop... I always research the best components and my machines never have major problems .... besides the odd fan that dies... they hold together real well..

cheers mate, good luck with the building..

I have only been building machines for about 5 years and i dont think i would even want to mess around with building one myself. thats alot of work and alot more money down the drain when the 30 day's is up on each single part. if your lucky you can get 1 year a part, but even then you have to hasstle with how many different manufactures about every different componant in your machine.
