Screen quality of AW,Dell,Sager,and HS

Damn, I had pretty much made my mind up on which lappy I wanted. It was an Area51 with Cyborg green. I found a way to configure it for less than $3000 on AW's website and still have it nicely loaded with available upgradability. Then I come across a thread saying how inferior the AW's screens were to the DELL! screens. I had researched Dell and written them off. Same with Gateway. Now I'm looking at Sagers and Hypersonics. I want a computer with serious muscle - but I also want a computer with the best quality screen there is - as that is what is showing you what this muscle under the hood is doing. A computer can have the best of the best under the hood - but if its screen is inferior who cares? I really, really WANT to get an Alienware for the name and awesome looks - but if its not the best maybe I'll head for Sager and drop the extra cash for a custon paint job. What are Sager displays like compared to the Dells and AW's? And the wildcard in my search is Hypersonic. How do they look? Thanx a ton - please discuss now so I can benifit, haha.

AW has good screens also. The problem was the video card w/ washed out display which has been fixed now. The AW screens are great. Sager is a good company if you want to save money over AW. I like Hypersonic a lot because of the paint jobs they offer on the laptops. I really like the color viridian green pearl on the ZX7 or the GX6 in viridian green pearl with black sapphire mettalic trim.

If you want to see hypersonic go to

Actually the Dell screens are really good... kinda

The UXGA+ screens are the brightest out there. However, there is a trick that most people don't realize with the Dell screens... turns out that the UXGA+ is nothing more than the std. UXGA (the same as everyone else) that Dell decided to add some more juice to. The end result of this is that the screen looks much brighter, but since it wasn't designed to carry so much power, has a tendency to burn out faster than they should. Cool display, but unless you buy the extended warranty (which is outrageous in price) you're kinda taking your life into your own hands.

Just figured that you'd like to know

So Alienware has fixed those problems? Was it something to do with the ATI card or something else? I've read on here that people were needing to turn some settings all the way up among other things just to get the thing where they liked it. And even then it wasn't at the level of the 8500. I was a bit disappointed to find that out. If AW has fixed this and now has a top notch screen that can compete with anybody that will make me feel alot better. I'm just glad I haven't pulled the trigger already!

The screens look a lot better at default on the AW because of the new ATI drivers they released.

fixed - Depends on who you talk to

The only thing I got from the new drivers is an occasional black screen on boot. Granted the wash out is gone - or gone until I get it to boot back up. I'm particular to the driver roll-back until AW figures out the new new fix.

Note - Just looked and in the On again Off again --- AW has removed the drivers again.

Oh - and back to the question in this thread - Once you dial in your 16.1 it is indeed very close to the best offerings going... Dell, Tosh, IBM etc... I would not let the display issue push you away from AW.

me neither...

if you're having issues of this type, its usually the driver. Try Omega's... seemed to do the trick for a ton of folks on the AW forums with the same issue.

As for the quality of the AW display vs. Dell's... see my post above. There's a reason that most folks love the display of my lappy

Which lappy do you have Yoda? I assume its a Dell.

Nopes

I have an AW lappy... with the 16.1" UXGA screen, which is why so many people comment on how lovely it is.

I've had my hands on a few Dell models with the UXGA and UXGA+ screens (anything less and the screens kinda suck) and figured out what the UXGA+ was all about (Dell techs occasionally mention it, but I found some of the specs and default power settings in print somewhere).

I wouldn't trade my AW for a Dell... EVER!!!

At eurocom.com if you customize a laptop, the one that looks like the Sager 5680, they give you the option to get a QXGA screen with its max resolution being at 2048x1536.

Eww I agree for the tiny font thing, my friend had a nasty setting for the appearance on his monitor that while I squinted closely to try and find freaken aol instant messenger, I slowly felt my eyes shrivel from the high brightness and radiation from the screen I dont' think his monitor was that big either...
