Hard drive write speed much slower than read speed?

Has anyone else found this on their 9300/XPS2? In benchmarks I have run, write speed can be as slow as 17Mb/s, while read speed as high as 60Mb/s. This was true for both internal and external drives. Does anyone know what can be done about it? My desktop has pretty similar read and write speeds.

Well think of it this way, if you had to WRITE a book would it take you as long as to READ a book? No, remember that when reading, the head only has to read the sectors and bits, where as if it is writing data, it has to change the magnetism of each bit in the space required.

Thanks. I am aware that write peformance is slower than read performance, but my write speed is often considerably less than 50% of my read speed and that is not normal....this is not the case on any of my other computers and SiSoft Sandra generates a warning message about it.
