Question about DDR2 ram

Thread Starter
I'm planning on upgrading my laptop with DDR2 so-dimm ram. From what i've heard, u have to use it in pairs of the same brand and size. Is this mandatory? Or can i use a pc3200 512 and a pc 3200 256mb ram and still have it compatible? or do i have to use 2x 512mb or 2x 256 ?

So long as your motherboard supports DDR2 ram, then you can upgrade it in any combination you wish.

Same size and type is usually required to run in dual channel mode.

Yes, you do not have to match it in pairs for just running it, only in Dual Channel mode.

And also, HEY LOU!!! Didn't know you hung out in this forum too, which reminds me I need to leave you some heat :bleh:

this is not true and not necessary, you only get 5percent increase in performance utilizing dual channel which isnt very useful on the alviso chipset. just use ddr2 memory, I bought a one gig stick and still use the 256 meg stick that came with my system. Yes you can use the 512 and 256 together if you like.
