I'm not sure if it's the same issue as im running a Dell Inspiron 9300 with the X300, but as of last week im getting REALLY annoying pixels and artefacts - most often in games, but also when working. It starts with a few pixels and ends up like this (see att. it just happened as i'm writing this post)
Sometimes i can restore the system to normal by unplugging the power-adapter, i think it's reducing the GPU-clock speed then helping it to recover more quickly. If i'm playing FEAR or alike "it" is spawning so many pixels that the screen quickly turns white (or sometimes red), stalls and then i'm always shutting down quickly because it doesn't look like it's any good for the gpu
- when rebooting immediately after having a "white screen" you can see the video-distortions even when it boots (when NO driver is loaded yet - so i don't think it's driver-related)
I've read hundreds of threads now trying to find out what's causing it.. but i have NO idea. The Laptop worked fine for about 2,5 months and now it has symptoms like an overclocked system (but it is not and never was overclocked).
My suspicion was that heat is the cause, but according to I8KFanGUI it's less than 60° C, then i thought the temperature nodes are not picking up the temperature correctly and the fans may be too late - but that also was not the case.
I checked the core and mem settings for overclocked rates with ATITool, but the default settings were in, but i also noticed that the ATITool Heating Procedure helps reproducing the error in 9/10 cases.
I'd like to know: You all seem to have the GForce? - Someone having the same problem (or even a solution) with a X300?
