my ferrari also shows 256 mb of VRAM in 3DMark05 ... maybe som gremlin or alien doubled it from 128 to 256 while installing ati catalyst 5.9 ...

Ok. There have been some very convincing arguments to the contrary. It's possible the techies at Acer lied to him, it's possible the vender got the listing wrong (it happens all the time), it's possible Acer put out the wrong specs on that PDF (which has happened before as well), and it's possible that the pricelist has it listed incorrectly. But all of these at once?

I'm sorrry Kainskind...I started this, if you see I was the first person to question your claim, but I've been convinced. I know the 256MB comes up in Futuremark, it does for me too, but it most CERTAINLY doesn't come up in all those other places like it does for you. You are right, and I guess it's possible everyone's wrong and it's based on a typographical error by Acer that has run out of control, but I believe you.

Now, on another front, don't go saying things about the Ferrari that aren't true. It *is* Acer's power model, make no doubt about it. The fact that DDR2 isn't supported in the notebook is a good thing, and you'd know that if you looked into it a little bit. The higher latency of the DDR2 RAM that you (and I) have equals slower performance, and the DDR memory that's in the Ferrari actually improves the machine. DDR2 is newer and supposedly "next-gen," but in machines like this it's crap. On that note, the Ferrari is supposed to have the top of the line everything, and considering the fact that the 1690 Aspire series did not come out after the Ferrari, there's no reason why the graphics card should be better. None whatsoever. The screen resolution is actually far below the standard for a power machine, and part of the reason why you can run new games in full resolution. Try taking something like the new F.E.A.R. demo and pumping up every setting in 1680x1050 resolution and even your 256MB card couldn't handle it, it would be jumpier than hell. Because your laptop runs in a lower resolution, it's easier for the X700 to render, and you get higher framerates. These is all the reasons why I'm so baffled as to why your machine has 256MB and ours (I have a TM 8104, others have Ferraris) don't, for the higher resolution requires higher video card performance. Just a thought.

Ich geb auf, fahr doch zum Europaring direkt zu acer und frag nach wenn du es nicht glaubst.

Well so i can play at my max of 1280* 800 16:10 in full details

I will download the F.E.A.R Demo and will tell u how it performs.

No what I'm saying is, it will work for you because of your screen resolution. By all estimates it will run just fine and look beautiful on your Acer. But what I'm saying is that in the Ferrari and 8100 machines that have a higher resolution, they could have benefited well from the 256MB. That's what I'm saying.

And yes, I speak a little German, and I was saying I do believe you. I don't need to drive there and figure it out myself.

da kann ich nur sagen, treffen wir uns dort ... mich würd's nämlich auch ernsthaft interessieren ...

sorry, for falling back to german ...

btw: i think, acer's adapted drivers could show 256 mb of VRAM at all places ...

ok back to my question, for ferari.
which one is better ?
catalyst or omega driver ???
ehehehe
just curious here :P

and as far as i know,
it woud be better to have 64MBX800 compared to 256MBX700 right ??
cause what i know is that memory on Vram is only optimized for the resolution it can handle, as for the speed, the core is the key.
so 128x700 shouldnt be lag so much compared to 256X700 right ?

btw my ferrari run 2691 on 3d mark 05 is it normal or below average ???

i got on my ferrari 4k5:

stock drivers and speeds: 2377
catalyst 5.8, stock speeds: 2576
catalyst 5.9, stock speeds: 2619
2900 on omega 5.9

stock speed, details, and settings

btw. what can be used to overclock the GPU?
ATI tool ...

ATi Tool works well. Give it a shot.

I guess your guys are wrong about X700 w/256 MB of RAM. In fact there is quite a few notebooks with that GPU, like the Sager NP 5320 :

15.4" WSXGA+ Active Matrix / WUXGA Active Matrix Display
Intel® Pentium® M Processor
2048KB on-die Cache
512MB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz [Expandable to 2GB]
ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 PCI-EXPRESS 16X with 256MB DDR Video Memory.

MPC TRANSPORT X3100

Intel® Pentium® M Processor
• Integrated biometric TouchChip® fingerprint scanner
• Integrated wireless antenna to support 802.11a/b/g
• ATI Mobility Radeon X700 64MB or 256MB graphics (PCI Express)
• Smart Card (CAC) reader
• Up to 2GB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM

IBUYPOWER Battalion 101 G-600

INTEL Pentium-M Processor 750 1.86GHz Mobile CPU
* 15.4" 16:10 Wide Screen WXGA 1280x800 TFT LCD
* 256MB ATI Radeon X700 PCI Express Video

And many more.

Sorry guys! Case closed.

PS I will try the Omega Drivers!!!!

I'm getting 2619 w/Mobility Catalyst 5.9

Ok can bring core up to 405 stable without artefacts. Memory gets up to 365. When i finished download of F.E.A.R. demo i`ll do a 3D Mark 05 run.

Only think i noticed with the 256Mb version of the X700 is that only books with DDR 2 got it.

edit:

getin 3070

on 400 core / 365 memory

so not really more power, but a hot gpu that could be damaged. I`ll clock right back and life with 2900 @ stock timings.

RadLinker works also nice to overclock ATI gpus since zou can assign ccertain clock values to certain programs...

Hope to have the Acer Aspire 1694 (with 256VRAM) on wednesdaz... (same notebook as Kainskind )

Played the F.E.A.R. Singleplayer demo now. Settings where 1024* 768 all to maximum!
Cached FPS with FRAPS and woho this game really eats up ya hardware BUT! There was no stutter FPS where down to 15 in some stages, but they even went up to 55 specialy u are right, this game is to much for my book. It was playable on the highest settings that where possible to select in the game. It slowed down, but it didn`t stop, stutter or hang. So what? Settings on high in F.E.A.R runs smooth and looks awesome too. Nice game, nice engine, and i am really impressed of the performance of the book.

Maybe tomorrow i`ll catch a video with fraps showing my fps in F.E.A.R.

Go get Omega, it will perform a bit better then the catalyst. Equal which Notebook u have, as long as there is an ATI build in. Omega will be better.
