What's High Definition (WMV-HD,H.264) playback like ?

Hi,

I am a consultant working with HD for film and television and I am considering using XPS2/M170/9300 for playback of HD dailies/rushes for features films.

So how well does an XPS2 playback high definition video content ?

Most will be 1920x1080 WMV-HD, QuickTime H.264 and QuickTime PhotoJpeg.

Resolutions
1920x1080, 1440x1080, 1280x1080, 1280x720, 960x720 and 960x540

Codecs
WMV-HD, H.264, QuickTime H.264, QuickTime PhotoJpeg, MPEG-2, DiVX, Xvid, Nero.

Can you change the refresh rate of the 1920x1200 screen to 59.94 or 50 Hz ?

Thanks.

I've watched quite a few high-def movie clips and video on the XPS 2. It's certainly a thing of beauty. Of course, anything outside the LCD's native resolution (1920x1200) is going to be a tad bit more Aliased (jaggy) but nothing completely noticable. Most of the movie clips and videos I watched in high def on it was 1280x720 and it still looked amazing. Nothing really to worry about.

The resolutions listed in my properties options for display drivers are:

1920x1200
1680x1050
1600x1200
1600x1024
1600x1000
1600x900
1440x900
1400x1050
1366x768
1360x768
1280x1024
1280x960
1280x854
1280x800
1280x768
1280x720
1152x864
1024x768
800x600

OF COURSE, if you're only viewing the movie clips, the player you are using will automatically scale the resolution of the window down to that setting. So you could keep your native desktop resolution at 1920x1200 while watching a movie clip in a 1280x720 window.

As for the refresh rates, I couldn't tell you as far as custom rates inside wmp/QT/divx, but an LCD (unlike a CRT) can only hold one true refresh rate, unfortunately, which is currently 60 on the XPS.

I've watched all the WMVHD content I could get a hold of at this point, I still haven't found any to buy, but it looks GREAT on my machine (see specs). No lag at all, I was even able to run a second monitor running the video at the same time as the 9300 LCD. The Batman Begins trailer looked fantastic.
