New Asus Notebooks Released

Z83V will be available next week. I feel many non-student buyers will change to buy this in stead of Z70Va, higher specs, about the same price ( if upgrade Z70Va to the same specs of Z83V, Z83V is almost cheaper, but with 17" screen ).

Here is the barebone specs:

8x Dual Layer DVD-RW
128MB ATI X700 PCI Express
17" WXGA+ / Carrying case
Remote control / TV Tuner
1.3M Pixel Built-in camera
Optical mouse / Built-in Bluetooth

Asus Z81Sp comments

The powerful Asus Z81Sp in the market now, pretty warm at the bottom; when fan is running, you can hear it well. Even the spacious P4 desktops have the heat and noise issue, we should be too mean on DTR.

The z83v sounds great, but not really into a low resolution on such a big screen.

I think that is because 17" models are majorly aiming home entertainment market.
other 17" models also with lower resolution.

Toshiba G20-GS2 Qosmio Laptop : WXGA, 1440x900,

Apple Powerbook G4 17": WXGA, 1440x900

but they are CD$1000-1500 higher.

hi there,
I went today in a store and the seller told me about a rumor that asus barebones could come with a international warranty (he saw that on the net)... It sounds quite unbelivable (too good to be true) to me since i'm going to travel a lot soon. Do you guys have heard of it?

I couldn't agree with you more. Bigger screen + WXGA = really big icons at native res. No thanks

Well, it technically COULD be true, but only if the seller you talked to was offering it. Asus only offers global warrantees to end users on their ensemble notebooks. All barebone units are warranted by the dealer.

Djembe is right, not even national warranty, only go back to the dealer you buy from. The barebone with global warranty is just a rumor, maybe the place you went to just wanted you to buy without warranty concern.

arggg, that's what i though...too good to be true !!

Z83V will be delayed another week at least, Asus USA received the shippment with wrong power cords.

( Couple of weeks ago they received wrong bluetooth adaptor, USB ones instead of internal ones for Z70Va )

Nah, this machine aint mean enough. The w2v is better and lighter. This thing is heavy and battery doesn't last as long as the w2v. I still think the z70va is the way to go.

Unfortunately not everyone has $2.5KUSD to splash out for a laptop.

This thing doesn't weigh 8 lbs, it weighs 8.6 lbs! Nearly 9 lbs!

BTW, who said this thing is cheaper than $2.5k? It probably cost more than the w2v if you were to add the same performance. W2v only cost a lot ($2.5k) because its fully loaded.

Take a look

With the same exact specs as the w2v it should be just under 2300$
Its a pretty nice bargain especially since its a whitebook and fully customized i think people will flock to it. Nobody has to max it out. People can get the 1.86ghz save hundreds and invest it into stuff that makes a difference.

Fortunately, some of us do <G> I've had my W2v for about a week and a half and I'm absolutely loving it! No problems, no heat issues, so far. Fingers crossed. A beautiful machine....

We have the Z83V in stock now, it is not like what you thought:"Bigger screen + WXGA = really big icons at native res.", not bad at all when you see it.
