You thought a XPS looked good... - Page 5

That 1st picture tells a great story. You photoshopped the paint job on the lappy. Look at the border between the white border and the "painted area". It's wavy. Did you buy that specially marketed wavy masking tape or was your hand just shaky when editing the photo? Guys, quit givin' props to a fake paint job which is ugly at best

Everyones an expert, why don't you paint yours, take a picture and see if someone won't think it's photoshoped?
Anyway, even if it is ugly, it's still good work

You aren't very bright are you? Look at the shadows at the front of the laptop in the high-res photo that he posted. The absolute hardest thing in the world to get right in Photoshop is shadows. Even pros with years of experience struggle with it.

I wouldn't have picked that particular scheme for my own laptop but I think it's cool. I want to do something to my 700M that makes it stand out so I like seeing different techniques being used. This is definitely original. Good job and extra props to you for putting up with the stupid comments.

basso, it's been a while since you posted in here. But if you want to check out other options... there is an awesome painter/airbrush artist in my clan.

I just posted up a thread in his section of our clan forums asking him for ideas of pricing.

I mentioned there could be varying sizes of 14" to 17" laptops, and choices would range from solid colors, custom outside (LCD cover), and custom all over.

The guy can do some crazy work. He's started posting some of his work and practice panels in the forums.

http://hatetank.nuclearfallout.net/f...forum.php?f=20

That's his section if anyone wants to check out what he can do. If you are seriously interested in looking to have something done, then wait until he can reply with some price guidelines. After that, join the forum and post up what you're looking to have done. I'm sure he could use your ideas for practice panels as he loves kicking back and trying things all the time. If you like what he comes up with, then you could ship him the plastics with a prepaid return airbill and payment.

And he wouldn't take a damn month with your work. I've seen work of his on bikes that he does within a week. And bikes require more work than a laptop case.

I'm playing with the idea of having my old 9300 LCD cover (replaced in XPS conversion) done up to match the rest of the XPS parts but with something unique and tasteful on the cover. Including masking off the Dell logo.

If you see someone in the forums posting under the name "AK74", look at the pic in his sig. Our artist did that to AK74's case. He's a big Transformers fan and you won't believe the detail he put on that panel unless you check out the thread with the higher res pics. Enjoy. =)

Very off-topic I know, but I tried to follow that link and it sent me to a login page. When I tried to register so I could search for it, the email sent to me said that I had to wait for manual admin approval to post, use the search function, etc.

I used to run a couple of forums and I found that the biggest way to lose potential member interest is to make them wait to post. Unless the administrators are trying to run a very exclusive community and aren't worried about letting it become a large, robust community you may want to set permissions to automatic.

Again, sorry for the OT.

It's all good, you should be registered now. I'll grab the sample pics of the AK Case and post them up here also to give you an idea until you log in.

I'm pretty sure that forum was marked public-nonmember, so unregistered people should've been able to log in. Hmm, I'll ask to get that fixed.

EDIT: Here's a sample of what our guy does.

The first pic is a close up to illustrate the detail, second is a full view, and third is the custom window is also made in the panel being lighted. There is room to do similar lighting inside our LCD covers using XPS flat lights. But the size of each lighted item can't be much larger than the outer borders of the XPS logo that lights on the XPS2/M170.

it looks like it just came out of the garbage
post #94 of 133
looks very industrial, I like it, but I think doing the ENTIRE notebook in that style was overkill...
You know what would look a little bit better? Adding some copper or orange for rust effect...but I love it. Who does this kinda of extreme painting? Car shops? lol
post #96 of 133
I think it looks bad ass... Great Job.
Where did you get it done? I also would like to get some airbrush work done. Any help would be cool.

Looks good dude.

I like the looks and the specs apppear great but how reliable is it?
Wow nice.
I love the design, and I love the paintjob. On close inspection the black lines are a bit wavy, but not bad for having done it by hand. Maybe using a ruler next time

Everyone who thinks it's photoshopped is clearly unqualified to identify photoshopped pics. People just think they can say something with no evidence to back it up.
It's clearly not photoshopped because:
-the lighting is perfet; why? because it's real, *doy*
-the colors, design, details, are consistent throughout all the pictures
-there are so many good res, detailed pictures
; nobody has the time nor the ability to photoshop so many top-notch pics, and not without making mistakes in consistency

So props on the paintjob, hope to see more uber-unique designs from you

It is very reliable... The only benchmarks I've ran is Passmark performance test ver 4.0 and it's ratings are 315.7 and the MegaFLOPS are 552.8... I get around 4.5 hours of battery if not using my verizon wi-fi or about 3.5 with it... The next upgrade is going to be a 7200 hdd which should bump those numbers up a bit...
