AHHH!!!!!!! THIS SUCKS!!! Intel Pro 2200BG - Page 2

I have 700m and 2200BG and it works fine with my 3 years old Netgear router. However, when I put in WEP etc. for the security, I had constant problems not just on 700m, but on all my computers ( total of 8 not counting Pocket PC's ).

I turned WEP off and it is fine again.

Oh yeah, 5.8Ghz or 900Khz phone is a must.

Well its back at it again. Lost connection today for no damn reason. Couldn't reconnect and had to reboot.
Called Dell to complain and they're sending me the Dell Wireless 1350 card.
Hopefully, I won't have any more problems.

i had the dell 1350 in my old 8600 and never had any problems with it.... this intel thing is rubbish... and its not my router.... despite Intel claming otherwise.... i dont have my MCSE for nothing.

Anyhow i'm living with the dropouts.. it only happens when i'm utilizing a lot of my CPU... driver A08 is def more reliable.. however once in a while i'd get the BSOD with that... so have to live with A09.

Just installed the 1350 wireless card and it seems fine. Good speeds, no drops as of yet, knock on wood.

Had like five Dell lappies already each with 2200 BG and never had a dropped connection to the router with some proggies connected to internet 24x7. I just let Windows to manage the connection. I am using only WEP though

And have it on channel 11. I do have a cordless phone 2.4ghz near my pc. But so far after the router update seems pretty good. Crossing Fingers. Sometimes when coming outta hibernation the intel software doesn't wanna initiate a connection, so I rebooted and seems fine now.
thx for your reply's. I'll call dell and ask for an exchange if the problem persists.
I live in an apartment and the walls aren't thick. I get alot of signals coming in on my network list.
2.4GHz wireless phones cause interference. I'd get dropped connections all the time until I switched to a 5.8GHz phone.

I made kind of a guide type thread to this same problem I *JUST* posted in the general topic.

http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=110763

Long story short -- Call dell, keep on them, and you might get them to send a 1350 as a replacement. The 1350 and other TrueMobile cards have never given me problems, the 2200BG gave me problems in two Dell laptops and one HP laptop among multiple accesspoints and routers. Sure, you can spend hours and hours trying to find some fix among the 50 "try this" fixes, but the change in cards ultimately was the easiest and most trouble free fix for me. The 2200 series card is simply flawed.

I've been playing Battlefield 2 over my wireless connection with the 2200 for about a month now...not 1 drop out.

There's nothing really wrong with the Intel series of 802.11 cards. The problem really steems from the AP's not properly supporting to sleep protocol that the Intel cards use often. The AP's need to be updated AND use Intel drivers (avoid Dell's drivers where possible).

I use a 2915 and WRT54GS without a single once of trouble after I have used the Intel latest drivers (for about 4 months now).

Intel is quite highly regarding in terms of their NICs.

I dont like to disagree to people but this is absolute nonsense. The feature you are talking about the intel PSP (Power Saving Polling) can be disabled by setting it to maximum power:
http://www.intel.com/support/wireles.../cs-006205.htm

After disabling this SOME Intel cards still drop connection. This is actually due to the intel card and its A09 driver version, and the hardware version of the card. Not all intel cards are effected only the older revisions.

In my eyes intel are not highly regarded for their NIC. They have their wintel alliance with Microsoft and due to the demand for the “Centrino” brand their wireless cards are often users only choice. There are many better aftermarket wireless options out there for users, but when it comes to laptops and replacing components many users steer clear from this option.

I have research all over the web and other forums and their seems to be a problems with the 2200bg card. Some people have it working fine and others don't.

The 2200bg seems to be more stable with old drivers from 2004 while using the windows wireless utility and WPAencryption. WEP and unsecure connections work fine but its only when I use WPA with the latest drivers, I have a problem. Another issue the Intel proset software seems to have is allow connections with WPA. I keep getting an error message "aquring address. I cannot use any encryption higher then WEP using the latest drivers from Intel for the 2200bg. What do you suggest I do? What configuration do I need to check? My router is not the problem, I was able to use my buddies compaq with a broadcom b/g and it worked fine under the WPA secuirty from the router (linksys WRT54g)

the 2200bg works fine. more often than not, the problem is the router settings and the wireless card settings. unless you post your settings, it's difficult to give you any advice; however, you might take a look at your tcp settings, your ACK packet settings, your router placement (set it up high and away from other electronic devices), your firewall settings, your lappie power mode settings, channel settings, other devices that may interfere with your router, may want to set fixed addresses rather than dhcp assigned, etc. there are lots of things you can do. also, you don't need proset software, you can just use the drivers.

No problem with my 2200BG using Dell driver (A09 and/or A10) and WRT54G 1.0 running HyperWRT set to WPA-PSK (AES) encryption. Last week, I downloaded a large file via my broadband from my work's corporate server to work at home at 5Mbps for over an hour without any complaint.

Edit:
except in crappy hotels where no card in existence would hold that weak a signal.

The key is installing the latest driver before (january 2005 when i got my 8600) also my 2200bg ws nasty, but with the new drivers it got always better, now it's flawless
