Dell compatibility with PCMCIA remote controls

Anyone tried DELL lappy (particularly Precision M20) with one of those remote controls that can fit PCMCIA slot? ASUS gives one for W2V and so does HP with a dv1000 for example. You can buy this on ebay, not too expensive (20 USD, maybe less), but I wonder if it is possible to use them?
Here's the link for an example: click .
Oh and saying compability I mean beeing able to power on/off lappy and to use some 3rd party software to use other buttons with media software.

Very unlikely I'm afraid, it probably needs custom software which would be model specific. Even if you could hack that yourself new Dell laptops like my XPS2 (don't know M20 sorry) no longer have infra-red at all. If you do have IR on the M20 is it on the front? pointless trying to use a remote control if the IR receiver is on the back.

Yes, there is infrared receiver in M20 and it's on the side - means not so bad. I'd rather say the compatibility problem would be about hardware, not software - there are many different protocols for remote controllers that M20's receiver doesn't have to support, that's why I was asking wheter somone could try it.

Indeed, but I don't want to use a dongle - just the integrated IR receiver. I thin I'll have to ask on HP/Compaq forum

You might have better success by using bluetooth. I know of a few pieces of software for pda's that let you control the computer. I doubt any remote (ir) would work with your lappy.
