hey, did the powermanagment system change from the m68-- series to the modern gateway versions? i think it was powerplay before, and that was blamed for a lot of the overheating/fan issues.

what kind of performance hit would i take going from my emachines to the sony (i think it has a 1.8 pentium m)?

45 days or so and my refurbed 7426GX has arrived, don't have to bug Don on Monday...

So... Unit details:

Unit appears to be in perfect condition, no protective plastic.
LCD has ZERO bad pixels that I can see.
Unit took latest updates and connected wireless easily.
Performed a BackUp to DVD, no problem.

So far, so good, this could be the "One".

Almost 1 year since I purchased my first emachines laptop.

I really do feel your pain, but if those who are flaming these machines ever worked on other brands, you will find the same shotty manufacturing and design.

My 7405 I had since oct of 2004 and I have yet to have even the slightest problem. The m6811 on the other hand had the hinge crack and screen flicker which I fixed myself. I did have the new updated screen lid installed by emachines and it has not re-cracked.

My thoughts toward Arima is this; hire better techs at your service center, or go out of business Arima's service is what gives this chassis a bad name. After being completely inside this chassis, few modds to the internals and this would be a flawless machine.

I agree somewhat Compman but the only past experience is my old Sony Vaio.
Had it for over 2 years 1/2 years and had zero problems with it. It was a 700Mhz and I still remember last Dec how it took SP2 flawlessly while my new super duper 64bit emachines laptop choked bigtime.

Hopefully my current machine will be rock solid long enough for me to go grab a new 7200rpm hd to spoil it with!

Thunder : Just like an election here in the U.S. "Every vote counts!" when they want it to! I think once again people like to think if they had problems with the lappy EVERYONE will. If they had problems with B.B. EVERYONE will. If they had problems with E/G EVERYONE will! I can feel thier pain I have had my issues no doubt, but now for over a year and a half been high on the hog . B.B. handle me ok once I spoke calmly to a manager . E got my lappy back to me in less than a week for cracked hinges . So to us lucky few (1000's ) (the only thing I been lucky with). I guess our voices will be drowned out by the unlucky many (100's).

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. I have too much fun with the smileys on both my eMachines!

I think this thread was a little too nebulous to start with and is now turning into some lighthearted flaming of those of us with complaints, legitimate or otherwise. Of course all emachines aren't bad. Maybe others don't realize this, but I do. However, I will state again that I won't in the near future buy another emach/gw lappy. That's just how I operate.

I admit that when it comes to computers (lappy's especially) I am one notch above total moron. But, are ALL manufacturers really that bad? I am sure some are worse than others, but isn't emachines at or near the bottom? Have you really worked on all lappy brands? I am not sure where the line is between flaming the machines and legitimate concerns about quality in general. Please let me know.

100/1000 = 10%. Seems like a risk to me. Maybe I should play the lottery more often.

If this is a forum for people to come and share their experiences, good or bad, why are those whose are bad told that their experiences are unique and should be accepted as a fact of life? Is this forum only for people to ask where to buy rubber feet for their laptop, inquire about temperature diodes on the lappy motherboards for monitoring, and to praise the wonders of emach/GW? If so, it seems I have posted in the wrong forum and apologize for wasting time or possibly dissuading anyone from buying an m6805.

Cheers,

Sisyphus

Your input is appreciated in this thread. I can't say as though I wouldn't be ticked if I had been in your shoes. The problem is stemming from those omnipotent couple that proclaim to know the record and future of all amnufactured machines. I guess ignorance is bliss

Legitimate concerns are stating your problems and history with the machine. Flaming is ignorantly proclaiming that all have or will have the problem, when many people have gone a couple years without incident.

Again, it is for posting concerns and problems first and foremost. The problems (in particular in this hread) are from when a select few ignorantly proclaim an entire machine series as junk just because they had a bad experience. You are completely entitled to your decision to never buy another GW/emac, and I for one applaud that based on your experience. But, when the flamers decide to start taking it personal and basically call people "standing up for the machines" stupid, that is way past the line. You brought up a good point in your first sentence. This thread needs to be closed before it gets out of hand.
