Holy old thread resurrection, Batman!

That said, the Satellite 5205 is still alive and kicking...4 years and counting of near constant 24/7 use ain't bad in my book. Just replaced the CCFL backlight and inverter and everything is peachy.

The nice thing about the 15" UXGA LCD is the pixels are soooooo small it takes a microscope to see if any are dead.

damn necro posting at its finest

Wow--old thread.

Anyway, I've got a two year old P105 and a four year old A55 which have both been flawless.

5205 purchased July, 2003. No problems, but hard drive is definitely...tired. May go with new Lenovo Ideapad. (This thing has been so incredibly reliable I have no idea how good ...or bad.. Toshiba suppurt is.) Their new offerings, except for the X series, don't tempt me.

OR...lol.....I may go with a refurb Qosmio G35. If I do, I will definitely learn how to spell "support" first.

5205-S703 that's over 5 years old. Not a single problem. Not a single dead or stuck pixel. The 5205 was the last series that Toshiba designed and built themselves.

For four weeks now I've been using:

Toshiba P205-S6267
Intel Core Duo Processor T2350: 1.86GHz, 2MB L2, 533MHz FSB
Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
Memory Size: 2048MB
Memory Speed: PC2-5300 DDR2 667MHz SDRAM
Display Size: 17.0” widescreen WXGA+ with TruBrite Technology
Display Resolution: 1440×900, Native support for 720p content
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Graphics Memory: 8MB-256MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory
Hard Drive: 120GB 5400rpm
DVD-SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) with Labelflash drive supporting up to 11 formats
120GB (5400RPM); Serial ATA hard disk drive; 9.5mm height; user removable

It has been very solid so far - I'd give it a 4 out of 5. I'd attribute most of my issues so far to Vista. I'm not a hard core gamer so the integrated GPU has been great for my needs. My biggest issue is battery life - with the screen turned all the way down I'm lucky to get 90 min's of use on a full charge. I'm rarely away from a power outlet so I can live with that.

I have had my P105-S9722 since October of 2006, the only trouble i have had with it has come from me tinkering with it. I has even survived a bath. I would make a suggestion to everyone that is looking to upgrade their HDD, I went from the stock 200GB 4200rpm HDD to a 200GB 7200rpm drive, makes a HUGE difference in the performance.

P105-S9722

CPU: T7200 Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz
OS: XP Pro SP2
RAM: 4GB OCZ DDR2
GPU: nVidia 7900GS 256MB
HDD: Hitachi 200GB 7200rpm

I would imagine there would have been a marked increase from the 4200 to the 7200, but I would bet, that the difference would have been less noticeable from a 5400.

Yea my next upgrade is the processor. I want to go from the T7200 to a T7600. Sadly, this is about as far as you can take many laptops. but the time is fast approaching that you will be able to build and upgrade a notebook as easily as you can a desktop now.

Im Postin' a bit late on this topic but i must say my X-205 Satellite is tougher than a tough book and is a work of art when you look at the case. I also can say that with 6 usb's and a firewire i can have a psp, ipod, zune, external HDD, mouse, and keyboard all attached at the same time. Processors run quite quick (1.80x2= 3.6 Ghz) as well.

We have two Toshibas in the family, a Satellite 1400 (WinXP SP3) and an A70 (WinXP SP3) which are both running great and have had no issues

M40-YP3 over 3 years old, never had a problem, and I have put this thing through a lot. It's starting to show it's age now, but I can't find anything better to replace it with!

Seriously, I use this laptop for everything and the only issue was a new battery was required (I ruined the old one), but the Toshiba store put the battery on sale half price and I got free next day delivery!

It's a love hate relationship with Toshiba. I had a G15 that was faulty, Toshiba replaced it with a G35 after I damn near had to take them to court. 18 months later the G35 developes the same problem the G15 had with that thin vertical red line in the monitor. Toshiba doesn't have extended warranties for this and since I had an agreement that Toshiba didn't honor I can talk about it now. However my companies and corporations I work with purchase Toshiba computers and they're all shocked at the bad construction and lack of tech support. Looks like we'll all be dropping Toshiba.

I had a Tecra 730XCDT I bought in '97 and that computer worked day and night almost non stop for about 7 years until some water spilled on the keyboard. Toshiba should go back to quality construction and service.
