OMG! WTF? The 7800go GTX is OUT!!!! - Page 5

sales staff are clueless in most cases, they read stuff off a screen that Mr Dell provided them with. Dont expect them to know what the hell a Nvidia 7800 Go GTX is when in most cases theyd probably only know that the difference between an X300 and a 6800 Go is that they are made by different manufacturers and have different amounts of RAM onboard. Most people that read these forums could probably do a better job than Dell Tech support staff! So yes I agree, chill and let the less technically inclined learn before you bombard them with questions.

I wonder what happened for those who get XPS with Go 6800 Ultra just before the Go 7800GTX release day.
I also noticed that 7800GTX uses 78.30 driver
post #86 of 183
i just asked dell germany about upgrading the xps2 to the 7800gtx.

the answer was: no!!!

the told me that it is technically possible to do that but dell wont offer single cards as an upgrade - dell wants to sell notebooks

so...i will sell my xps2 on ebay and get the m170!
dell has released the 78.30 drivers for the 7800go. interesting thing is that they're found in the xps2 download section.

So is this what happened last time with the first XPS? Did Dell wait to offer the video upgrade like they are doing now? The more I read, the more I'm getting pissed. On the day this M170 is released, the Gen 2 is all but gone form Dell's site. What the hell? Jesus Christ, look at it, it's the SAME MACHINE. And if Dell reps don't know what they are talking about why would they being making statements along the lines of that the 7800 GTX won't be supported for the Gen 2? Is Dell really that stupid, or is there really some truth to what people are hearing from the reps? I just dropped $2700 on this thing plus over $300 more for upgrades and accessories. Didn't Dell state that there would be a graphics upgrade?

For the last time people...

WAIT UNTIL WE HAVE CONCRETE FACTS BEFORE YOU SPECULATE

It's not worth getting all upset about it.

What people are getting ticked about is that Dell is playing the dumb "oh, I don't know anything game". I mean, Dell is the largest computer company out there, you would think they would have a handle on things before they released them instead of just rushing them out there and not giving any info about upgrading. I mean, Dell should have their facts straight instead of saying "oh, you can't upgrade, your current card is fast enough."

Well it's clear that some of the Dell sales agents clearly do not understand the needs of the enthusiast gaming niche. You acknowledge that Dell is a large company with a diverse customer base. I'm sure over time Dell will fine tune the way in which it deals with the XPS 2 type of customer. I think the M170 is a positive step in the direction for Dell. Change in companies is not something that occurs over night. Companies like AW, Sager, and Hypersonic have an advantage because theyprimarily deal with the enthusiast crowd. They are able to focus in and understand all aspects that affect this customer base. Like I said earlier, give Dell some time and allow the facts to be presented. Currently, it's looking that the XPS 2 will get the 7800 upgrade. I can make that claim on my personal research. However, I'm not really sure what is going to happen. Until then I'm just going to enjoy my machine and not get all caught up in this hype. I suggest you do the same and cut Dell some slack. In the big picture I think they have made some tremendous strides to better serve customers like myself.

Exactly. Surely Dell has known that they would have an NVIDIA 7 series Go part for some time. There's really no excuse for not having their act together by now (the 29th). There shouldn't be any "speculation" at this point. And since Dell seemingly can't confirm any 7 series upgrade for existing XPS owners - who've paid big money earlier this SAME YEAR, I think I have every reason to be frustrated.

Has anyone tryed to call the much vaunted "XPS SPECIALIZED SUPPORT" number since those people are supposed to be in tune and provide customized service for XPS owners only.

Maybe they would know a bit more on the topic.

It would be a very DUMB business decision for DELL not to allow upgrades down the line for us XPS2 owners. Maybe not now but down the line...in a month or two

Dell is growing Exponentially.
To sustain this growth they need to hire lots of new people as well as cover the turn over of existing employees. This causes alot of growing pains.

Dell already has the largest market share of PCs in the country. They are expanding to new areas. One is as the notebook gaming market. Another is the iTunes market with the Axom product. They have TVs and projectors and many other products. Even within the inspiron notebook line there are a large number of products and options for each. Point being, not every underpaid new hire customer service rep is going to know everything about every product line. This is especially true for new products. The customer service reps only what has been officially released to the public. If you can't find a link of the information you seek from of some outside company like toms's hardware who thrives on having the latest info about these things, then chances are the info you receive from customer service rep is speculation.

Wow, how many of you are 12 years old. I haven't seen this much crying since my 4 year old lost his Mickey mouse balloon. Patience. If there is a will, there's a way.
For the amount of reply's, you would think this was the cure to cancer.

Thanks for the information.

This same kind of speculation happened with Dell went from the Inspiron 8100 to the 8200. Well guess what - after the dust settled it was possible to buy board from the 8200 and yes it would install in the 8100 and everything was fine. I suspect this will be the same thing. It's just a matter of buying the part. In fact, it ended up that after a few months one could by the boards cheap on ebay. Come gang it's not like we are hurting for an upgrade because we can not run current games. The 6800go ultra is still blazingly fast.
