Blue Screen 'Of Death' - Bad Drivers??

Hey

I have an issue with my 8890 notebook. My machine had been running very stable for the past year but about a month ago I have started having problems.

The 8890 crashes often now. I get the blue screen of death. It goes by really fast , but the message DRIVER_IRQL_not_less_or_equal.

Some days the machine wont crash, others days it crashes 3 or 4 times. It will crash with apps running or not. When the machine crashes it always goes throug the BSOD. Also I play CS:Source, and it runs fine everytime I play, never seems to crash while playing (x fingers).

I have checked the heatsink and use mobile meter so it does not appear to be a heat issue. I have checked all programs and hardware and everything seems to be working fine.

Could this be a video driver issue? Do I need to update the video drivers? Is there any tool that can scan my machine and check for problems?

Any information regarding this matter would be great.

Thanks

1st Run RAMTEST86 adn see if there are any memory problems.

Next check for heat type things. Cleanunder the keyboard and also the exhaust system - not just the heat sync.

Turn the setting (dan't remember where) so that on a BSOD, the machine "freezes" until you respond.

Also, please provide any additionas or upgrades that have been made/installed since the problems (or shortly before) started happening.

Crash Update

Ram Memtest86 v3.0 and v3.2 and no errors.

Took out heat sink and cleanded out all the dust (although there was not much as I do this every 2-3 months).

I loaded up the new catalysts 5.9 ATI drivers (yesterday) and everything has been working fine except I have had one crash with the same BSOD and message: DRIVER_IRQL_not_less_or_equal. (I was using omega drviers 2.5.44 before)

What I have noticed is that i only seem to crash the computer when I have been or play MP3's (using winamp, Wmedia player, or creative software). It doesnt always crash when I play music but I think there may be a corrleation there, for the machine only crashes after audio or video has been played.

I updrage all my drivers for my creative audigy, and still have the defaults from sager website for the internal sound card....

The only new program I intstalled recently was AC3filter (for audio), which I have now removed.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks

Greg

I had a similar situation and I still have no real answer up untill now.
1st computer repair place said its the memory
Geek Squad said its the harddrive and the DVD drive.
when I sent laptop to Sager they said its the processor.

i am in the process of getting a new processor. Hopefully that will help. Everything else didnt!

hope that helps ..

Same Problem

Same problem here. I think it may have to do with the sound and video card being on the same IRQ. For me they are both listed as being on IRQ 17. I have had problems in the past when playing BF1942, BFVitenam, etc. but seemed to "solve" it when playing the game by going into the device manager and disabling my sound card. I also do get the problem on and off but mostly when playing sound and video. It is very sporatic. Trying to fix the IRQ thing I just kept reinstalling windows to see if it would change the assignment and unfortunately it wouldn't. Anybody have any ideas as to what the problem is and how to solve it?

I had to send my laptop back to sager because non of the local places were able to figure it out. (after i replaced RAM, Harddrive and CDdrive... and nothing helped) .. well, sager said it was the processor, so I replaced that and it is working again. So, I guess it was the processor. The weird thing is though, that I put the (broken) processor in my other sager laptop and that works fine. So, I have no clue how that can be! it solved the problem though, and the "broken" processor is actually faster than the one I had in the second sager before, so it works out well..

Cost

Thanks for the advice! How much did it cost to send it back to sager and have them look at it and replace the processor?

the insured shipping with ups cost me 80 both ways. sager charged 45 to look at the laptop. I replaced the processor myself because they would have charged me way to much for that (both for the time and the processor).
so, all in all it cost me about 130 and a long time!
