Stainless Steel case mod on 5670 - Page 3

That's a sweet mod. I hope you get enough orders to make you a few dollars on the side. I'm heavily leaning towards a 8790, so I wouldn't benefit from this. But if you ever came up w/ a set-up that worked for the 8790, I'd definitely be in line to PayPal you some dolares.

And I agree w/ the KKK comments. Never noticed it until it was mentioned. Now I can't get that association out of my head

5 is cool !! dont you think?
Guys, with respect to others, I think you should all remove the KKK comments.
why are we giving importance to this?

Good point, quintus.

And why would that be? Here in the US, we strive for freedom of speech. Beyond that, I think it's rather helpful to know. It could lead to staving off trouble, if one is so inclined. Obviously they're not meant to look like KKK symbols, but in a few people's opinions, they do. And that fact makes it touchy. While I'm all for sticking with what one wants (especially when it wasn't meant to mean something that it was mistaken for in the first place), I also think it gives ppl a chance to avoid problems.

What if you took your laptop to school everyday and ppl started treating you badly for a perceived wrong on your part? Doesn't make what they're doing right, but it is in their eyes. Personally, I'd rather avoid that. And I might not've ever even realized the problem unless someone'd mentioned what it was in the first place here.

No one was flaming the creater. Rather the opposite- he's done a fantastic job in his creations and ideas. People are offering simple statements on what a few of the badges look like. To me, that's more helpful than hurtful.

Perhaps things aren't like that in the Russian press. Maybe that has nothing to do with it. I have no idea. But where I sit (American in Japan), I don't see the issue.

I've been in Canada for 4 years and was in Japan for 3 before that so I'm perfectly accustomed to all the stuff... I just prefer to stay away from border-line things like "expressing your opinion" about racism, etc... Just to be careful thats all... By my comment I meant "with respect to those who find KKK, etc., offensive".

"Perhaps things aren't like that in the Russian press", this is, in my opinion, so offensive, exactly the kind of stuff that make the european people think that the most of the people of the states beliebe that freedom is a franchise only used by people of the states.

i ask forgiveness if i have offense you, but that kind of things are what cause me to infuriate.

nothing have force anybody to shut up, the only thing (as i see) that mmarkin have said is that it is not helpful to talk about this because only gives publicity to something that only deserve the attention of the police. and that was said using his expression right, too.

nobody was trying to say something more that what they have said, if people want to see shadows in every corner they are going to see them, no matter there were shadows or not.

there are people that spend so much time trying to defend the expression right in all circumstances (something that they dont need to do because all people have it in the net) that dont spend one minute thinking if it is helpful in that situation.

all this discusion is something stupid, this is not important, im not going to waste my time with this, i will read everything you post, but in the future im only going to talk about how can i get those cool case mods, that is exactly the tittle of this thread.

Man, what have I started?

Let's all drop it. This is Heath's thread. Here, I'll start:

(ahem) DANG! Those badges are sweet. I love it when ppl step up and start putting good effort into nice-looking mods. Nice work, Heath. I haven't been this impressed since I saw some guy who made a sweet waterblock, but I can't find the link, dangit! It had I think a 5/8" inlet and four smaller outlets, it was kinda x-shaped, and basically beautiful. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Well, your stuff hits me the same way, Heath.

Keep up the good work!!

Anybody know what I'm talking about here

Whoops, sorry, I haven't checked these boards in some time -- been waaaaay too busy. I've been holding on to people's orders, and still haven't set up a paypal account.

But -- I think I'm going to be getting a bunch of cutting done this week, and I plan on getting all the badge orders cut then. If anyone wants one soon, I'd suggest letting me know by Monday.

To the guy that wanted a regular christian cross, that is certainly do-able.

And I think the original post may have been deleted, but I gather from the discussion that someone thought some badges looked like Klan hoods, and now that I look at those "face" badges I designed (#'s 36-39), I can see why! It honestly never crossed my mind, and it certainly wasn't intentional! I'll probably remove those designs as soon as I have enough spare time to update the page. If there's any others that look questionable, please let me know.

Thanks again to the people (about 18 so far) that have placed orders.

Is it possible for the template to be circular? I am thinking of ordering one for my future laptop. The smiley face combined with the triangle to form something totally unintended reminds me of the fish and light bulb merging to form Homer's face.

Yes -- I am already going to do one circular one for somebody, and I'm also doing a few Dell Dell 8500/8600 badges (one guy sent me his Dell badge so I could measure it). I just need exact measurements to do it. If you give me the wrong size, I can't be held responsible if it doesn't fit!

Thanks for the response. I just have one question, are the edges rounded or is the surface flat?

Flat. They will be cut from 14 gauge 304 stainless steel, (which is 2mm thick), then I clean up the edges if there's any burrs, and finally I grind the face to give it that polished look.

Hahaha, "There ya go, Fishbulb."

Welcome back, Heath!

What is design number 47? I think I've seen it before...
Heath, how easy/difficult do the original "badges" pop off? Are they glued in? How did you attach your metal mod to the case? Epoxy? Also, how difficult would it be to pop the custom steel badge off and replace it with the original in case the computer needs to be sent in under warranty?

Thanks for the info.

It's loosely based on the Mercedes logo.
