Just as a follow-up- I've had trouble in the past where the laptop wouldn't come out of hibernate or standby- it happened when I updated the LAN and sound drivers to the latest version (from Windows Update, seeing as how Asus doesn't keep its drivers page up to date..). I rolled the drivers back to the version available on Asus's website, and the problem disappeared.
I suppose the drivers are badly written, maybe doesn't play with with the no-exec bit. Either way- I've noticed my z63a is much more stable using the sound and lan drivers from asus' website.
