Extending my 700m warranty?

My 700m is 10 months old and has about 60 days remaining on the original warranty. Over the weekend the DVD-ROM/CDRW drive failed. I wasn’t even using it. The tray just randomly ejected and that was it. The system stopped recognizing the drive. I just received a replacement drive (albeit refurbished) from Dell. The original was a Sony. The replacement is a Phillips (I have no idea if one is more desirable than the other).

Anyway, I’m getting a little worried and I’m thinking it might be a good idea to purchase an extended warranty. I’m wondering what your experiences have been with purchasing Dell warranties after the original purchase? Are there any deals to be had? Can I negotiate the price? Are there online coupons for this? Do you recommend any particular warranty plan for my situation?

Thanks in advance.

Laptops lead a stressful life, you try to be careful but the average lappy that is carried gets more knocks in a day than a DT does in it's life. I buy a wwaranty for the period I plan to keep the computer.

I had a display develop dead pixels on my 1.6 and 38 hours later, I had a new display installed. That display is 700 dollars from Dell, maybe 400 aftermarket. The extended warranty is well worth it.

Thanks. I agree. I’ve already decided to buy an extended warranty. I’m just curious if they offer coupons, etc or if I have no option but to pay the price that’s listed on the site.

There are no coupons for the extended warranty. If you had bought it within 21 days of your computer purchase, the price would have been a little bit lower, but now you have to pay the full price. I think the price is highly worth it though.
