Download "power strip" for free from a place like "download.com" I can hit a consistant 2817 with the Nvidia using that utility.

Will do. thank you

Hey guys...Sorry but I cannot believe you are happy with a poor score like that. I was distraught when my M51 got 2500. My year old desktop gets 4600 and I definately expected this to out perform that!!!

My laptop hits 3100 with power strip everything runs just fine ran DX: invisible war demo at 1600 x 1200 no problem.

you can't really compare a desktop to a laptop in terms of performance, laptops are still behind when it comes to gfx cards... getting around 3000 for 3dmark 03 is too be expected even with highend laptops
post #7 of 31
no no, the area51 should be getting much higher, there is no excuse
post #8 of 31
surely the case the all the hardware is in should mean nothing. My desktop is a P4 2.6 with 755 MB RAM (no hyperthreading and AGP 4), this gets 4600 with absolutely no tweaking whatsover. The laptop is 3.2GB with 1GB ram and hyperthreading, AGP 8 and the ram is supposed to be the best type too (3700). It scores 2500????? That is just over half what the desktop is getting? Now something is definately wrong here if you ask me....Either that or the components are not worth anything because a 3.2 gb can be completely wiped across the floor with a 2.6 gb computer. what do you guys think???

well what gfx have u got... which is the main reason for the score difference... which i see that u failed to mention

my 2200+ 512mb(2700) and 9700pro gets more than my laptop which is 3.2 and 1gb(3200) ram but only has a 9600mobility (which is slower than a normal desktop 9600)

2500 is low and you should be getting closer too the 3000 mark but more is asking for too much

the reason why it's called a "3D BENCHMARK" is because it mainly test the ability of the system to do 3d work

Also keep in mind...

The way your machine works in benchmarks does not necessarily reflect the way it works in games. If you want a better idea of your computer, download and try Aquamark03. A very much game oriented benchmark.

Also...with drivers such as Omegas (which I wholeheartedly advise you at least try) you won't see performance gains in 3Dmark03 but you WILL see them in games.

There has been argurments going on for years about whether or not 3Dmark is of any use whatsoever to benchmark a computer for gaming apps.

Personally, I'd fire up Call of Duty or any other DX9 game and have a look see before I sent my laptop back. Those games are where the industry is going and our laptops will roxor them to the max!

I just did some tweaking and popped off a 3DMark03 score of 3217

Yes, I'm bored.

Now if I could only figure out how the heck to post a picture some of you might believe me

Craig, wanna post your adjustments?

I was using Powerstrip to Overclock the GPU at 440MHz and the Memory at 245MHz.

Yeh all of my games work fine for now, so much better than my old comp. i used to only get like 35 fps max in CS at 640X400 or whatever that res is, now i get a constant 100 at 1680x1050 with all features turned up, Battlefeild works fine, i had to move down to 1280X1024 for halo in some parts, abd DOD i get about 71-90 fps at 1680x1050 as well so, im very happy with it. And one more thing, anyone know when alienware will release the new nvidia drivers? i just dont wanna mess around with the ones that Nvidia relased because i heard they had some problems with the widescreen

Thanks Brain. I guess a Moderator should be privy to such things eh?

I'm glad to hear you liked Call of Duty Time-Pilot. I just finished the single player portion yesterday. Driving a tank was sweet!

So anywho...here is the proof of my pudding. Just some tweaks and Powerstrip Overclocked pulled this off for me.
