Hey 'Pants - I'd be happy to bring one of the lap stands back from the US for you - but my next trip isn't 'til March. Or, could also have my daughter receive it and then ship it too you (doubt if the shipping would be too much). Anyhoo - just pm me if you want to go this route, altho it sounds like you've got a good fix.

lol - you would need something like an awesome gaming machine to keep you occupied while watching a 5 day test match (I'd need a few cocktails as well!!!).

Awesome offer Shazza....

Will pass for the time being because:::::::::

Called AW tech support (Adam) cause the problem was getting ridiculous..

We went over a couple of things.. testing the fan actually works (it does) etc etc...

Then out of the blue Adam basically said "Well the GPU is screwed, ill send you another"...

So im expecting mid to late next week to be receiving another.. ill throw it in and send the old one back.

Pretty impressed with the "no attitude" support i got no inference on my knowledge or inability to operate the machine.... no suggestion i had done anything wrong... Some basic hassle free troubleshooting for 10 minutes and now a part is on its way...

If this fixes the problem and is handled in the specified timeframe im gonna be a pretty happy customer...

So far, as with alot of you who have dealt with AW Aust Support, im very pleased

Now to just upgrade my warranty from 1 yr to 3

7800?

lol of course i asked about it as a viable upgrade option... you know me better than that Dogg hehe

but unfortunately it is not to be...

as we all knew we have version 5.3 of the mobo.. the required mobo is 6.1

The 7800 would require a new mobo putting the total package at probably close to a grand...... maybe 800... Adam, who i spoke to wasnt sure... but a new mobo alone was in the vicinity of 350...

so for now... a working 6800 ultra will do me just fine lol

ok got the screws today, only took 1 week more than they said.

oh and the screws were the wrong size... too small.............

Geez mate.. would have thought of all things, screws, would have been the easiest to ship to you on time and correct size..... i mean its not like my 7700 uses different screws to your 7700.....

Providing your talking about the same part/panel as the techy i would have thought screws would have been simple...

I am curious to see how my tech problem goes as far as delivery of part and hassle involved... at the moment it has been a dream (apart from the fact i had to call them).. but at the moment it has just been words also.. and as we all know.. actions speak louder than words.

Hear you frustration podge... best of luck in dealing with this

anyone multiplay games using wireless, or is it a hoax. I was thinking of going to wireless but i`m worried the ping would be useless like dial up. I asked the the other forum & the guys said it was OK but thats in the states. I`m with bigpond & was wondering about the card or the modem, or even a wireless router etc.......... thanx
p.s. Its a worry podge, screws are pretty straight forward stuff
post #168 of 286
wireless is ok, not great though
It may depend on the game. I play Guild Wars on my wireless network at home with no problems. (Optus broadband/cable)
I play wow at the same time as my xbox on live. I have a Dlink gaming router and a wireless bridge that i use for hte xbox. I have a 1500/256 ADSL connection and i got 2 more computers hardwired to the network, so all up I got 2 cabled comps and 2 wireless comps (plus a couple of wifi enabled PDAs). most of the time a max of 3 is being used and I haven't had any more problems with lag then i have with a one port ADSL modem.

The only problem i have is with my 'realistic battlefield simulation' laptop that creates its own smoke to help make your FPS experience more authentic..

Lol, I love your Last paragraph. In regards to my reply, I thought he was referring to actual wireless internet (like the service the company "unwired" provides for sydney), but if your talking about just using your current internet over a wireless network at home, dw, you'll be fine, I play PS2, xbox, gamecube (yes it does online), 3 pcs running bf2 and one running cs:s at the same time and virtually no lag, so hurrah for wireless networks
post #172 of 286
ahhh yeah the unwired dudes, dunno have no experience with that, only with telstra's wireless broadband which uses the CDMA network. I seen wow played on it fine (with a maxon mini-card for those taking notes), dunno how a FPS would go seeing as lag is much more noticible there. I would think the only problem you would have would be the stability of the connection.

ahh podge, your last line ......what a gem. Touch wood i hav`nt had any more probs with my lappy, i think the lapcool really helps. it still gets hot but not like it used too. I reckon pants, podge & myself should receive an anxiety rebate for the stress these machines cause.
thanx for the wireless feedback

Hey all, back from holidays

on the wireless front i game at my folks every now and then and they just have a standard Dling G-604T wireless router... Its great... i can WoW anywhere round the house lol...

On ther personal problems front... well....

Called alienware on friday to see if they had sent the part (as i was away i couldnt tell). spoke to Andrew. Remember that name guys... and if you get him, ask to speak to someone else. Andrew told me he would find out what the go is and call me back in 15 minutes. I was skeptical and im sure he could sense that... but i allowed for this small leap of faith and decided that seeing Adam had been quite good with his Customer Service maybe it was a trend.

I was wrong.

An hour later (5:30pm) no call back. Not that i was surprised but i was really pissed. I called AW back and explained to some other guy that picked up how totally dissapointed and annoyed i was at having to call back. He said he would transfer me to Andrew (for the update i was supposed to get a call back on) and must have messed up the 'hold' button or whatever because i actually heard him talk to Andrew. I couldnt make out everything but what i did hear was something along the lines of "look just apologise and get it sorted"...... I think thats what i heard anyways.

Andrew picked up... apologised... then told me my graphic module would be in the mail that night (this is Friday night. More than a Week after i made the inititial call).

I have asked for the package to be delivered to work. Called work and so far no package. am about to give AW a call just to actually see if it was shipped. Fingers Crossed however i have that sinking feeling we all had when we were waiting on our machines to get shipped.... at the moment i doubt i will have the new part by the end of this week.

ok maybe someone needs to explain to me how couriering works etc....

I called AW.

Andrew answered. Explained it was shipped and gave me a shipping number. However he told me that they have not passed on the consignment numbers yet (or something to that effect) so i will not be able to track it yet.

I called the courier company (as Andrew said i could do this and gave me the number) and quoted the consignment number to them. they have not received this package.

Andrew said i should be expecting the part today (as it was sent Friday) however the courier ppl said if they dont have the number for it then they dont have it, full stop.

So was i lied to? Have AW still got the package and although its ready to be sent (hence why they and a number for it) it actually hasnt? or is this just some big misunderstanding of the system on my behalf (very possible) and i will have the package today as stated?

Why cant things just be done properly? geez this annoys me

Wasnt lied too... Andrew came through with the goods.

The package has been put on a truck here in Melbourne for Delivery. Now to just get my office to courier it out to me hehe

next cock up..........alls been going well for 2 months & last night i decided to re install F E A R as i hav`nt since i had to send the laptop back. Installed it, patched it, was playing with resolution 11?? X 8?? & about 30 mins into the game & crash - not to d/top but to a complete power off. I`m so disappointed. high end machines should be able to play a new game on med res for more than 30 mins...... i actually thought all this was behind me.
It even sits on a lapcooler
well i've got good news, i finally got the right screws!!!!!!!!!

only took 4 weeks for 6 screws

what happened when u turned it back on dogg?

crashes could be software...? so not really AW's fault... but a total machine turnoff like that... sounds like hardware getting to hot

Got my AW back up and running. played wow for a few hours yesterday and put it through some unreal tourny just to make sure it was working ok... looks like for the time being i have a winner...

furthermore to the continuous mistakes made by AW more than once in my conversations with tech support did they mention about also sending me out replied paid packaging etc so i could send the broken part back....

No replied paid anything.. nothing than just the box it came in (and trust me... if i put it back in that and posted it no-one would ever see it again). Now AW can play their own waiting game:

-chase me up for it,
-get told misinformation,
-chase me up for it again,
-get told ill call em back in 15 minutes,
-chase me up again,
-tell em it will be in the mail at end of today,
-Send it in a month

Am i forgetting something? thats only fair isnt it... specially now i have to organise my own freight etc...

And yay Podge got his screws lol
