XPS Gen 2 boxes from Dell.ca

I ordered an XPS Gen 2 on september 9 and it went into production on september 15. It's still in production as we speak. The XPS Gen 2 is exactly the same system as the M170 its just a new name. I was just curious if ill get the M170 black boxes even if its an XPS2 that ordered and from Dell.ca?

(Last pic on the bottom right)

Another thing, it's it true that computers that are ordered from Dell Canada are built from Dell USA?

What do you want the black boxes for? I just therw my boxes away because I use a backpack for my lappy, I guess for boxes those are pretty cool...but they are still just boxes.

...OoO... I didn't know XPS gets special accessories... like cd case, etc..

Hey, anyone notice that the power adapter in that pic is different? It looks more like a 9300, not like mine for my XPS2.

edit: added pics.

Thats wierd, it does look smaller, maybe it is due to lower power requirements?

it looks cool! But i was just asking because i want the cd case and the little pouch as well!

When i received my precious XPS2 which i returned and in the box there was two power adapters...the big one and the one in the pic (which is smaller).

my new XPS2...

...that I ordered last Tuesday Is currently travelling through the US on it's way to Calgary. I think that they are built in the US. "In transit in U.S."

I ordered 2 power adaptors, the extra arrived last week and it is the larger brick style. I'll be interested if the packaged one is similar to the one in the picture. The website specs on the power adaptor have not changed though, same dimensions and weight.

Dell notebooks are built in Malaysia and then shipped to the US in the 'boxing' stage. When they reach the US they enter 'shipping' and are sent off to Canada.

Let me refine this...

"Dell notebooks PARTS are built in Malaysia and then shipped to the US. When orders come they assemble them right away for customization...."

Ah no, sorry. Check this thread for more details: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=20521.

The laptops are made in Malaysia during the first stages such as kitting. That's why it can pretty much be done in a day when they have all the parts. After that is the boxing stage which takes 3-4 days. During the boxing stage they are shipped from Malaysia to Tennessee and your order magically enters the pre-shipping stage. How else do you explain the time period in boxing?

It's always good to read the sticky threads when you are new to a forum.

Nice to see another fellow Calgarian is getting an XPS2. I know a few others with their systems and all of us love it.

Wise choice indeed.

I wonder how much of your purchase price goes for the fancy black boxing. It makes since if Dell was retail, but as we all know... it's Dell Direct.
