That's just a little faster than a overclocked 6800go ultra. I have to justify keeping my XPS2. I need control here

That's just a default run, crank the resolution and AA/AF up and you'd definitely notice more of a difference...bear in mind the 6800U has no transparency AA whereas the 7800 does.

Yes, in the article it says that there will be a lower-clocked one. So I'm ecstatic for the coming of that!

No reason to upgrade, for me. Too expensive, and prices will fall soon. My XPS2 runs Battlefield 2 with amazing detail and speed. Unless you just HAVE to blow money to play F.E.A.R. with crazy settings, the prices will fall before long, in time for the games that start really pushing our XPS2s.

FEAR with crazy settings need a 7800? The multiplayer demo ran computer maxed and graphics maxed at 30FPS, and thats a stock 6800 Ultra, a 760, and 512 MB of ram.

Yeah they did some optimizing since the single player demo, made it a must buy

the mp demo also runs really smooth for me. 1024x768, 16xAF maxed settings, smooth shadwows disabled, 47 avg FPS, 32 min FPS, 108 max FPS.

I gotta admit this is one of my wost wanted games, aside of DOD:Source and good old HL2. The SP demo really scares the shit out of u just like good ole Half-Life did back in '98 and looks set to be good.

wow indeed this is simply amazing!
But personnaly, I wouldn't buy the XPS M170 yet. Only a $ problem. I just received my computer last week and I paid 2379+ taxes (Canada). I make a fast quotation for the XPS M170 and the price is 3258$ + taxes. Maybe in some yrs, I'll change it for something bigger, but I think I still can have fun for the next 2 yrs with this computer

High res with high detail and soft shadows will bring a 6800 ultra down like a tranquilizer dart. It even puts the 7800 to the grindstone at max settings. So yes, hence the "crazy" settings.
