Sager 3880 customized or Acer Ferrari 4005

I am about to buy a new laptop compatible with linux, specially for gaming, and I don´t know if choose the 3880 customized with more RAM, more CPU, HD 7200, etc or the Acer Ferrari 4005. I don´t expect a laptop to be as powrfull as a desktop, would be very expensive, but should last at least till 2007 year playing all games.

I love the 4005 because has an AMD Turion 64 bits and has everything I need, wireless, 56 modem, etc. The only thing I miss is a Nvidia card, that works better with linux and prefer it. The 3880 uses centrino, but has nvidia 6600 and is cheaper for the same configuration. Do you think is worth to switch to nvidia 6600 and leave Turion or should I keep with Ferrari 4005?

Note that Acer includes tax for Windows and other software. Help me decide and give me advices, i am a mess.

Ok first things first, why are you using linux if you will be prmarily gaming? I am all for linux however I dont believe it is ready for a heavy gamer yet, occasional yep, heavy probably not. Even with Cedega.

Persoanlly I like 64 bit myself so I would go with the Turion, however 64 bit is also tougher to use in some instances, some things require a 32bit chrooted environment(Such as Wine which would be needed for your gaming as Cedega is based off it) and I am not sure right off hand if any distro comes with one set up or an easy way to use one. The ATI card is a trick to get running in 64-bit I have been told thanks to closed source drivers, but I am sure others have already gotten it running so if you dont ind a bit of work that is still an option, look both here and on the Acer forums for threads on using linux with it. There are a few other quirks(ACPI timer), but overall that entire process is pretty well documented so it may be more work, but it wont be work you have to figure out on your own I dont think.

I cant say much about the centrino though as I havent really looked into it. check tuxmobil on it and see what comes up.

After looking onto pctorque i have found that the higher configurations are cheaper than the ferrari 4005, but is very difficult to find a 15" laptop with some X800 or 6680.

I think that some Sager model can fit me, although you have no option for deep configurations. I will use Windows some times so as to try new games, like age of empires 3. Under linux? Games like unreal tournament, and others with Cedega.
